Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Jordan.
Lauren, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Well, first there were the dinosaurs, then a bright flash of light, it got really hot…and then I barrelled out playing a loud guitar and screaming at the top of my lungs! It was a very exciting time.
Kidding, of course!
Between choruses and musicals and classic albums permeating my household, singing was something I had done my whole life, but in high school, after going to a concert where the opening act had two guitar-wielding rocker chicks, I was inspired to learn how to play. Since all of my favorite artists wrote their own songs, I thought I should probably give that a whirl, too. So, swish and flick, here we are! Now, I drive down the Atlanta highway swearing like a pirate because I have a song that needs to get OUT of my head and IN my writing app, but can’t because I’m not allowed to touch my phone…
Upon reflection, I might be the reason they enacted the hands-free law!
In any case, that’s probably not what the great scribes of yore were referencing when they wrote of the Tortured Artist. LOL!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
While performance always came more naturally to me, songwriting was something I fell into, and as a dove deeper into it, it became more interesting, challenging, and even now, continues to reveal its magic. I wish I had a Harry Potter-esque sound effect to punctuate the word “magic” because (aside from being hella cool) it truly DOES take on a transformative quality! I have many songs that commemorate wild and beautiful memories, but I also have songs that were written to inspire myself and others towards lightening up, having more fun, dreaming bigger dreams, and not allowing ANYTHING to permanently defeat you…
It’s heart-warming when someone tells you that one of your songs is on their Kick Some Ass Playlist!
I take my ART seriously, but not MYSELF seriously, and I think that’s quite obvious when listening to my album, “Stereo Wonderland.” It’s full of intense guitar riffs and warm harmonies, but with fun plays on words.
…and if it ISN’T obvious, please allow me to invite you to watch the “Chef LJ” Highlight on my Instagram Feed (@LJandTheGasolineChoir) wherein I get attacked by a pan of marinara sauce.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I think the most essential quality of becoming a successful artist…is doing it for the Right Reasons. If you do it selfishly, expecting praise around every corner, as if the audience owes YOU something, then just go on ahead and become an Underwater Basket-Weaver. I’d imagine there would be a lot of high-(albeit very slow) fives upon completion of your masterpiece!
But for ME, success is creating the art I want to create with the intention of it brightening someone ELSE’S life. Few things make me as happy as seeing the look on someone’s face when they relate a story of how one of my songs positively affected their day. (Peanut butter cups are a close 2nd, though.) Writing songs and keeping it to myself wouldn’t be much different than holing myself up in a dark room, wrapped up like a burrito, binge-watching Seinfeld…not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?

What a delightful interview! Lauren is as intelligent and witty as she is talented. And she is remarkably talented. Her lyrics reflect the soul of a poet. Her voice is powerful and beautiful. And, as a bonus, she is stunningly gorgeous
