Shaina Windsor a.k.a. DJ Lady Shay is a one of a kind Disc Jockey. Being a female in a male-dominated industry she is so versatile and diverse that makes her stand out in so many ways. She is an amazing Emcee & entertainer that will leave a lasting impression after hearing her.
Shaina was born & raised in Delray Beach, FL where she grew up with her Jamaican family hosting house parties while her father was djing them at night. Shaina learned to watch her father spin on Technics and vinyl playing the best disco, dancehall, calypso and soca music all night. Later on, Shaina moved to Orlando for college and graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in Interpersonal & Organizational Communications with a minor in Sociology. Shaina early career started with an internship with 102 Jamz & Power 95.3 as radio promotions and DJ. For several years in Orlando, Florida she grew into one of the most popular females DJs in the Orlando nightlife downtown. Then, Shaina started expanding her DJing career from radio and clubs to weddings, corporate events, and schools.
After college, Shaina moved to Tampa, Florida in 2011 to pursue her dreams of being a DJ full time. She is of Jamaican descent, both parents from Jamaica so many of her live sets can be infused with the reggae vibes and soca giving you that high energy and positive vibes. However, Shaina is an open format DJ that can mix, blend, and scratch live. Shaina will confidently play and entertain in front of any crowd. Shaina recent star performance was in 2018 being Grammy’s Award winner Mary J Blige DJ as her opening act in Tampa, FL. Her personality is amazing and you will be impressed with her professionalism. Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never an easy road when it comes to following your dreams. However, I had a great support team to help me along the way. When I first started to become a DJ in college, I worked two jobs to make sure I can afford college and build my business. One of the struggles was just getting noticed & to be taken seriously that you are a female DJ. Back in the early 2000s, there wasn’t many or well-known female DJs as they are today. Much less to be in a major platform we were just either on radio or a wedding DJ. So, it was a struggle for me to get major gigs or shows. Over the 16 years of my hard work and dedication, I not only finish college but I successfully created an empire for my company and helping others just like me when I first started djing professionally.
DJ Lady Shay – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am the CEO of Abyss Logic Production. I’m currently based in Tampa, FL, however, I travel nationwide and the Virgin Islands. I specialize in DJ/Emcee, sound, lighting, production and more. I’m mostly known for my kitty headphones to rep my brand #kittygang making it a “Litty Kitty” experience. Mostly proud of myself and taking a leap of faith to do what I love. What sets me apart from others as a whole that I always push myself to do better. I want my business to bring joy to every client every time. I’m proud that my business is still expanding and we have DJs all over that work for us even in Atlanta, Ga.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There are two things that happen in my career that I’m very proud of. First, in 2018, I had the honor to perform for the Grammy’s Award winner Mary J Blige as her opening DJ act in Tampa, FL. Special thanks to Ford as I DJ for them as well. My second would be this year in 2019, I did the most nerve-wracking thing and attended the DMC DJ Battle for the first time ever in my career & I won top six plus being the only female DJ in the battle and placed the highest for our city.
