Meet Jeremy Perry of ShotbyJp in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Perry.

Jeremy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story is a long one, so I will just drop the short version. I am a Grady baby and Real Atl native. I graduated from Fredrick Douglass Highschool or (Doug) if we are using local lingo. I really got into photography after dropping out of college after three years. I woke up one day and realize I was doing something that really wasn’t what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Fast forward six years and with the support of family, friends, and God, I have been blessed to work in the photography industry. My first paying photography gig was in 2015 with Sharpshooter imaging shooting for Skyview Atlanta (Big ferris wheel downtown). Currently, I work for KEH Camera the world’s largest used camera dealer and I also shoot for the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United via Lux Photography. In my free time, you will find me either gaming or editing.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Birth- Obstacle

It has been a very long road full of speed bumps along the way. I was born at six months, so I was a premature baby. I spent the first few months of my life in the hospital still cooking as the docs would say.

Education – Obstacle
School was rough for me and by rough I mean hard work. I’m probably one of the only people that I know of that got held back twice (long story), yet graduated from high school in three years instead of four.

Finding My Style- Challange
Last but not least, we have to shout out my high – functioning depression over the years photography/art has really helped me to better manage it. My style was birthed from it and in my art, it shows. It is ironic that something I battled created purpose and meaning in my art/photography.

Cell phones – Challange
Yes, technology has come a long way, phoneogeaphers are everywhere.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am proud that I offer a style of photography that is not that common in Atlanta. I am a collage artist/photographer. That basically means I paste multiple images together to compose the reality or image I want. I am a photographer first and an artist second.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Faith in myself, I never give up and I am not afraid of failure. I am also not in it for the money. Taking pictures and creating art is my passion and I enjoy it. That’s the easiest way to explain what drives my success.
