Today we’d like to introduce you to De’Andre King.
De’Andre, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started off early, I have always loved fashion!!! My passion was original with sneakers, I used to collect vintage types of sneakers, such as Reebok, Puma, Asics. You know stuff like that, which was different from what everyone else who was wearing Jordan’s, Adidas, and Nike.
I knew then, I had a passion for clothing because I was always having problems finding clothing to go with my colorful shoes. So, that’s what lead me to want to start a clothing line.
Surprisingly, I just got into making clothes just a few months ago. I started in my garage, where I set up shop and from there, it blossomed into what you see it as today. I’m definitely glad I took that leap of faith in this business, so now, when I buy my shoes, I just go make something to go with it.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth road? Yeah, definitely not. But with adversity comes room for growth. So, I can definitely say that me going through different types of problems along the way, gave me the strength and courage to keep going. My biggest challenge was trying to start my business while going to school full time. Whew!! I always remember trying to stay up late at night, stuck in the garage trying to finish order and then turning around and having to go to class at 8 am. Most nights, if I had a lot of orders, I wouldn’t get in bed until about 3 am, I am a perfectionist, so many nights, I didn’t get any sleep because I had to make sure all my orders were up to my standards.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lucid Mindz story. Tell us more about the business.
Well, Lucid Mindz is an urban street fashion brand that specializes in making clothes not only for the youth but for their parents as well. We strive to “Always Dare To Be Different”, in modern fashion people tend to follow behind major celebrities and what they do and wear, and that’s what creates the trends that we follow. Our vision and what we live by is to be open and free when you get dress. Put on what you want to wear. Mix colors, wear different patterns together, you know stuff like that. Don’t ride the wave, be the wave!!!
What I think sets Lucid Mindz apart is like I said we don’t follow trends, we create them. Many small clothing businesses don’t offer the variety of clothing that I do. They just sell shirts or hoodies, you know the usual. And nothing is wrong with that, but I wanted to stand out, I wanted for everyone to be able to come to Lucid Mindz and be able to shop for what they want, and it is reasonably priced.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Well, I tend to think a positive mind creates positive results. So, I think I have had my share of luck along the way. Your mind is a lot more powerful than what people use it for. The power of the mind is something a lot of people need to focus on to generate that positive energy towards themselves.
