Meet Waves

Today we’d like to introduce you to Waves.

Waves, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In the beginning, I was a photographer and videographer trying to make my way around the scene. I currently go to school for film and media and wanted to be a director. But, I met J Wise through a family friend and he showed me the real music industry and the business behind it. I use to rap in high school but never thought to make a career out of music until I tried out to be on the Playlist Academy (a group that helps indie artists around Atlanta get shows and meet execs) ran by J wise. Since then, I have linked with amazing people and my producers ItsjustG and Regrets help me build a sound that gives a euphoric feeling. I want my music to make people emotional whether that is sad mad or happy. They help me to achieve that.

Has it been a smooth road?
Of course, not. This is a rocky road to take for anyone who wants to be an artist. No one knows which step is the right ones to make it to the top. One main struggle is earning the respect you feel you deserve. Especially being a female in this industry often times, you don’t get taken seriously whether that be from producers, hosts, or the people with big money. It’s hard but doable to make people respect you as a woman as well as an artist.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
My name is Wave$, while I do photography and videography and graphics, I am an artist. An artist in all aspects and that is something I can say I am truly proud of. I play two instruments and am currently learning how to produce. I care about the art of it all. If even just five people are listening to my music, it makes me happy because they are giving me something most valuable to anyone, time.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I do because of the numerous connections here in Atlanta. My advice to anyone starting out is to believe in yourself and get out of the house and NETWORK! Networking is sooo soo sooo important in any industry.
