Life and Work with Courtney Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Jackson.

Courtney, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My pathway into the events industry started in 2011 with non-profit fundraising events. I learned about logistics and background details about an event and feel in love. When I got engaged, I quickly became immersed in wedding planning and learning about the industry itself. When the wedding was over, I knew I found a pathway that really spoke to my heart. Immediately (i am talking within 30 days of the wedding) I decided to seek out internships anyway I could. I was blessed to find an internship with a luxury brand here in Atlanta, GA. From there I developed many relationships and career enhancements. Its very enlightening to see how much my career path has shifted from the past 8-9 years and I am forever grateful for the people that trained and mentored me along the way.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. I worked many events for free in the beginning just to learn. I was determined to get my hands on any experience I could. Some of the struggles along the way are just finding opportunity. Weddings are very stressful events. A planner needs to be able to think on their feet and handle long hours of high intensity and be very organized. In the beginning it was a struggle to get in the door to show top players in the industry you can handle it. For any young woman starting their journey my advice is, success does not come overnight in this industry and you need to have the patience and determination to make it through. Additionally, don’t just be present at the event. Use that opportunity to watch and learn from the planners you assist.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Charming Details – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a wedding planner local to Atlanta, Georgia. I specialize in wedding planning and event design conceptualization. I am known for my eye for details that assist my couples in enjoying their engagement and this new season of their life instead of stressing over planning. I am most proud of getting that text or call after an event with the couple saying how thankful they are I was able to assist them on one of the biggest days of their life. I believe my want for this for every single couple that crosses my path is what sets me apart from other wedding planners!

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
The most important piece of advice I can give to any young woman starting her career is to not listen to anyone that feels her dream is any less than. Your idea and your dream is just that, yours. So go for it, you will not regret it.
