Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharene French.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always loved finding different ways to express my creativity! I first learned the very basics of jewelry making my senior year in high school in Art class! We had a two-week lesson on jewelry making, in which we were to make a necklace. I enjoyed it so much that even when we were supposed to move on to other lessons, I kept going back to making jewelry… that’s all I wanted to do.
Then, with the help of God, he showed me how to build on the very basics that I learned to make earrings, different other necklaces, bracelets, and rings. I would make pieces and give it away, then eventually started selling pieces, and with the help of my mom and friends actually going to craft shows. I begin teaching a friend’s two little girls at ages four and seven how to make jewelry. Now here I am over 11 years later, making it truly official with registering and starting my own business!! I cannot wait to see how it blossoms and see how I develop as a designer! Look out world, here I come!!!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been an easy journey. There have been many times over the years that I’ve allowed people and my inner thoughts get the best of me. And I’ve on multiple occasions have given up on it because my dream seemed to “too big.” Thanks to my family, some amazing people in my inner circle, and most importantly my relationship with God; I’ve come to realize not to focus on the big picture all the time. Yes, it’s great to know where you want to go, but let’s just be real sometimes that in itself can be overwhelming. I’m learning to focus on the step that I am currently facing and trusting in God to do the rest. I cannot do everything, but I’ve learned and am still learning the importance of making connections with people who can assist to put the pieces of the puzzle together!!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about MMJ Majestic Jewelers – what should we know?
At MMJ Majestic Jewelers, we specialize in custom made jewelry. No two pieces are ever made the same! We specialize in jewelry for a baby on up to your grandparents. And for every occasion, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, you name it I can do it for you! I mainly work with different types of beads, but I have begun venturing out into metals, leather, and semi-precious stones. Currently most of the pieces I make are for women; however, I have begun experimenting with men’s jewelry and have received some great feedback from doing so.
Some great things are in store here at MMJ’s! Such as I am now offering jewelry making classes that can either be hosted privately in my/their home. This is a great option for a girls night out, a child’s birthday party, or for fellowship groups. Another project I am presently working on is getting a website and Instagram page up and running, as I currently just have a Facebook page for my business, I am very excited about these new expansions, so stay tune some great things are coming your way!!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Perseverance definitely is probably my biggest one! As I mentioned before, I am working on facing my fear of succeeding and learning to focus on a specific task in order not to get overwhelmed. You are the only one that can truly hold yourself back!
