Meet Cara Calero of The Ginger Macaron in Columbus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cara Calero.

Cara, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always loved baking and started making macarons as a way to make some extra cash to go on a missions trip (at the beginning of 2019). My macarons ended up getting way more business and attention than I ever expected them to, and I was overwhelmed- but also really grateful… because it gave me hope that this business could be more than just a side thing- I could do this full time! So, once I came back from my missions trip, I went all in and gave all my time and effort into making beautiful, tasty, macarons people loved. I sell at my city’s downtown market (and am selling out every week!), team up with other local businesses, invest a lot of time into my social media accounts, and take every opportunity I can to make my business grow.

I’m only just beginning, as I started doing this back in February of 2019- but I’m so excited to see where it goes from here- and am ready for all the hard work it takes to make it something great!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve definitely gone through a lot of frustrating nights doing this… nights when I’ve worked for hours and hours- but ended up having to just start from scratch all over again because the product wasn’t as great as it could be.

Days like this, I had to remind myself to just take a deep breath, and start again. I always remember great business people that came before me… they always said it wasn’t easy- but if you just push through, and keep doing your best- something amazing will come out of it, and all the tears & frustration will be worth it all!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Ginger Macaron – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
My business makes fresh, homemade, French macarons for weddings, parties, events, and just for people to eat and simply enjoy. I am most proud of the fact that I always give a product I am proud of selling. If I don’t feel like it’s 100%, I never sell it. I also always do my best to make my customers as happy as they can be- and strive to be kind in customer service, and just spread love everywhere I go. I’ve had a few amazing opportunities to make my macarons for charitable causes, and help lift the spirits of people that have gone through traumatic experiences- and those are the things I hold dearest to my heart!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans are just to keep expanding, & do more in every realm of business that I can. I am currently working with my team to see about shipping my macarons online. I am also teaming up with another local catering business in my city to start making macarons for their weddings and events. I dream of bringing The Ginger Macaron to other cities one day and I look forward to seeing all the future holds!
