

Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Barber.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We wanted to build something great. Something that would be beneficial for others. After much research and consideration of our own unique backgrounds and skills, we determined that being a part of the candle making industry was right for us. Being able to contribute to the success of others by offering them professional-grade products at wholesale prices was our starting point. We have spent much time over the years negotiating with some of the world’s largest and most respected companies to offer these products, along with fast turnaround times and personal, caring service.
Since our humble beginnings, we have moved the company from our house to a warehouse and continue to expand into more space as it becomes available.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Yes and no. We had a lot of volunteer support from family early on that allowed us to operate and grow without the use of any debt or additional funding. Some of the struggles early on were balancing full time jobs with trying to start and grow the business in the evenings. More recent struggles revolve around trying to have more structure with our time. As we have grown, it is easy to allow our time to be consumed by operating tasks that do not contribute to growing the business.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Flaming Candle Company – what should we know?
We currently specialize in candle making supplies. Our customers range from first time hobbyists to full time career candle makers. We are slowly starting to move into other markets that are similar in nature, such as soap making supplies.
We put a tremendous amount of time and resources into research and development, which translates to knowing our products well and only offering products that meet our strict testing criteria. We pride ourselves on offering knowledgeable, friendly advice, a focus on customer satisfaction in all interactions, and fast turnaround times (many of our orders ship out same day). We owe much of our success to our amazing team. They absolutely contribute to the success of the company.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
As we previously touched on, we owe a huge amount of credit to our family who helped us get on our feet. Without them, getting started would have been much more difficult. Now that we are established and have a fantastic staff that is dedicated and hardworking, we no longer depend on family volunteer help (though they do still come by on occasion and keep up with how things are going.
