Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Bernard.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Natasha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up in the Caribbean, New York City, and Miami, I was afforded a unique experience that shaped the woman that I am today. My time spent in New York was pivotal and gave me a perspective of grit, grind, and perseverance. It’s where my entrepreneurial spirit and love for fashion was born. I later went on to graduate college with a bachelor of science and spent many years working in the health care IT corporate world. I understood the glass ceiling effect and made a conscious decision that I and only me were capable and responsible for creating and crafting the life that I deserved. So, here we are.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life’s journey will never be an easy ride. They’ll be rides down smooth paved roads and some down dirt and cobblestone roads. I was once asked by a twenty-something what advice I would give my younger self and this is what I shared with her.
“You are at the prime age to take calculated risks. Take them. Financial literacy is critical. Learn, then invest. Hone in on knowing the importance of assets vs liabilities. Saving is great, but investing is better. See the world. Establish good health habits.
Think long and hard and discover your purpose. Passion and purpose are completely different concepts. Set 5, 10, 20-year goals. Start thinking about what you want your legacy to be.
Determine what freedom means to you, then go for it.”
Please tell us about Fashionably Fabulous.
I own a lifestyle brand, Fashionably Fabulous. A blog, online marketplace and consulting agency. Most know me as the fashion blogger of the Fashionably Fab blog. The seamstress and home decor fashionista with a keen and unique eye for style.
As a brand, I am most proud of stepping out and putting in the work to create my brand. I worked extremely hard to create it. What started out as a dream has morphed into something tangible and valuable. Something that I created from the ground up. With zero investment capital. My ability to grow from the experience and teach others is priceless.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
When I lost my mom at ten years old, that was a pivotal moment in my life. I think it played a huge part and totally changed the trajectory and outlook of my life. It was either sink or swim from that moment on.
