Meet Tamlin Hall of IAMHOLDENON in L5P

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamlin Hall.

Tamlin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in rural Georgia and received my Agricultural Economics degree from UGA. Then, I moved to Florida to sell accounting software to the produce industry. After a year, I left that job to pursue my dream. I began taking acting classes while I worked at the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando while I took my first acting classes. That decision set off a fifteen-year journey in the arts. I’ve studied acting at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago and received my M.F.A. in Screenwriting from UCLA. I’ve been in some national commercials and been paid to write some scripts. I moved back to Georgia after writing/directing/producing my first feature film “Holden On” and formed the nonprofit IAMHOLDENON so we could continue to create compelling content while inspiring hope for others. As a startup non-profit, we have already formed key strategic partnerships across the state and will start shooting a 12 episode documentary series “Hope Givers” this fall. Our nonprofit just wrapped our first Hope Givers Music Festival that featured national headliners Judah & the Lion, Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, The War and Treaty. Someone asked me the other day what I was — “Are you a director, writer, teacher, festival organizer, nonprofit dude, fundraiser, filmmaker… what are you?” I guess I don’t have one label… I just do it… learn from my many mistakes… and keep going. I believe you have to carve your own path and story. It’s your story; make it matter. I start teaching screenwriting at Emory University Continuing Education in the fall — you should definitely take my class!!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every day is a struggle. Believe in yourself, then surround yourself around people who believe in you. And vice versa. Believe in those who believe in you. Create a team. Root for each other. Also, build a home. Whatever that means to you, build a home. Start today.

We’d love to hear more about your organization.
Our non-profit IAMHOLDENON specializes in producing creative initiatives (content, concerts, camps, curriculum) and I speak, produce, write, teach with my personal business, The House ATL (www.thehouseatl.com). Last year, I was honored in the Georgia House of Representatives for my work in advocacy and the arts. I was recently selected to receive the 2019 University of Georgia CAES Young Alumni Achievement Award. I still don’t really know what I’m doing, I’m just doing it and allowing the outcome to happen (or not happen) organically. I think we (artists, entrepreneurs, small business owners, etc.) often one step away from being called a visionary or a fool. I’ve been called both. A mentor once told me “Infinite patience produces immediate results.” My faith has helped me let go of those “immediacy expectations” that can be incredibly stifling. Sometimes, you’re going to be up, sometimes you’re going to be down. It’s okay as long as you have given 110%. Whether I’m directing, producing, teaching, writing, fundraising, speaking, project managing, or volunteering… you won’t find anyone else like Tamlin Hall. I have an unsurpassed authenticity, a compassion for others, a drive to see projects thru completion, a vision to take risks, and the humanity to tie it all together.

What were you like growing up?
Read my scripts. It’s all in there. Lol.
