Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Scales.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started as a freshman at Georgia State University in the Fall of 2015 and found out I was pregnant at the end of my freshman year which was March 2016. My boyfriend and I were living together in my student dorm and had no clue how we were going to make it work, but it was going to work. I knew I wanted to go to school and go to work. At the end of the spring semester, we moved out of the dorms and into our first apartment. I remained a full-time student throughout my college career and worked part-time, and attended summer school throughout my pregnancy. My daughter was due in November of 2016, so my fall 2016 semester was mostly online and once she was born, I returned to campus to finish my finals. I am now a Georgia State alumna as of May 8th, 2019 and I received a Bachelor of Arts in journalism with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Speech.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road wasn’t smooth at all, but nothing worth going after is ever easy. There were some days before she started daycare that I had to strap her to my chest and breastfeed her in the back of an 8 am lecture. There were days after she started daycare that I had to pick her up and let her eat dinner in the back of a 5 pm lecture. However, my support system is a huge part of my success and they’re the reason I was able to continue my campus involvement and focus on the bigger picture – our future. My boyfriend, our parents, and all of my grandparents have supported me in every way, so it truly takes a village.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
My blog DreaOnAir.com was inspired by my daughter. Originally, it was called DailyDru (my daughter’s name is Ari Dru) and it would document our life and things she was doing. I’ve rebranded it to be more lifestyle friendly, so we talk about beauty, and relationships, and parenting, while also sharing our family life.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was the typical “oldest child” if that makes sense. I was very outspoken, opinionated, a leader, I’ve always been very intelligent, and determined.
