Life and Work with Des Gray

Today we’d like to introduce you to Des Gray.

Des, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I come from the slums of Haiti. I moved to America at age 13, with nothing- I didn’t even speak English. I had a very challenging upbringing but thanks to teachers and my peer’s parents who saw something in me I was able to couch hop my way through high school and pursue my education. I got my degree in Theatre/Film Production, I moved to NY, worked at BET, and expanded my network to Atlanta where I realized the game needed someone like me.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The politics of the industry involve a very vicious game where everyone is not always genuine, this makes it difficult to be your authentic self as a creator and there is rarely a safe space for someone with an open heart.

A word of advise and encouragement I want other young women to know is that having thick skin is necessary, and so is staying grounded and spiritually aligned. When you do that, everything else seems much smaller and you remain focused on your goals.

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a Visionary above all things. I am also a Director, Producer, Creative Director, CEO of Foreign Made Films, entrepreneur, and a leader to all my peers who I see potential and a hunger for growth in.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with a lot of major artists including Russ, Future, YFN Lucci, Trippie Redd, Derez Deshon, an artist’s from Nigeria such as Davido, Adekunle Gold, among others as well as artists from the UK and France.

I like to call myself a Global Creator. That being said, I specialize in applying my vision to any given subject and bringing ideas to elevate them to fruition.

This is why I am a triple threat because my vision is not limited to a single area and my ability to execute transcends beyond any single “job” I may take on. What sets me apart is that I do everything, I do with a pure heart, which is also what I am the proudest of.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
As far as apps, I really like Brain Waves- it helps keep me sane during my hectic schedule. I also listen to positive affirmation recordings daily.
