Life and Work with Vanessa Nguyen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Nguyen.

Vanessa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
About five months ago, I had no idea who I wanted to be, what my purpose was in life, or why I was even put on this Earth… I had no money saved, no job, no motivation, didn’t attend school, and depended on my parents. I was focused on the wrong things in life, expected everything to be handed to me. I didn’t realize how much potential and how blessed I was to be here. Never would I thought I’d mature so fast. I learned to prioritize, invest, build my independence, financially support myself, love and appreciate all those around me, to stay positive, recognition to those who wanted to see me succeed, and to stay humble for everything I’ve worked for. I hustle, lol. As you know my business is slowly growing and it will only continue to progress. I’ve learned to take baby steps at a time rather than to jump and miss. I take advantage of any opportunity I can get. To take one blessing at a time. I’m so so entirely grateful for my amazing friends and family who believed in me unconditionally and watched me grow into the young adult I am today. I thank god for helping me get through times where I wanted to give up on myself And I’m proud to say that I love the person who I’ve become It’s only a matter of time until blessed days come. Bad days don’t always last forever. On my 18th birthday, it hit me that my life was about to stop. No more calling out of work, no more sleeping in, no more less responsibilities. I thought to myself what could I do so that I don’t have to depend on my parents? I took the good things I was was able to do. All my family members are business owners and entrepreneurs so it very much inspires me every day to do better.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a business should never be a “smooth” road. Starting a business requires a lot of patience and hard work. Commitment and investing your time into something you enjoy will only push you to do to better. It teaches you more than the basics of life. My advice for young women is the key(s) to success is to never speak into existence unless it’s already come through. Never compare yourself to another being, regardless of how successful or well known they are. YOU are your own person and YOU are the change. The work you put in is all that should matter. This is your success. YOU ARE YOUR OWN COMPETITION. You must strive towards success no matter who knocks you up or down. You do this for yourself and no one else. At the end of each and every day and night, no one has you as you do. You can never let someone get into your head believing you can’t do something you set your mind to. That is how you succeed. Be humble.

Please tell us about ForeignVBeauty.
At the age of 18, you can only do so much especially if you just graduated so I started to learn how to hustle. I started my makeup company, lash extensions, I was fortunate to start my Keto weight loss products, and surprisingly paid photoshoots. My business name (ForeignVBeauty) came from my Vietnamese side, V for Vanessa, and Beauty because that’s what I want to specialize in, health and beauty. I figured it would all just come together! Where I am today can be better I have just been a little distracted but with the support system that I have by my side, I’ll be back in no time. I honestly can’t wait to see what the future holds for me.

Who have you been inspired by?
My mother played a huge role as a role model. At the age of 13, my mother was working to support herself and her family. She was not only paying rent at an early age but also providing food on the table for her parents and siblings. It inspired so much when she told me her stories of how she grew up. She wasn’t spoiled growing up and she does her best every day to do so with me and my own brothers. At the age of 15, my mom opened her own salon and I began to work for her. From 10 am to 10 pm, five days a week. I was starting to realize though I’m making money like an adult, it wasn’t about the money. I was unhappy because I wasn’t living like a regular 15-year-old. Growing up, I slowed down a bit and started to see how things were run. I started seeing the hustle and hard work that was being put into each and every client. I learned everything to money management, to customer service, and the importance of keeping a good image. So much was taught and I’m glad to be put in a business industry so that I was able to learn at a very young age. I’ve always surrounded myself with entrepreneurs or people with a positive mindset. I’ve seen my friends start from nothing to getting booked every week. I’m so grateful for them because without them I wouldn’t believe that I could do this at such a young age. Friends who support and ride with you along the journey who are genuine and want to see you succeed cannot be taken for granted. I love each and every one of them.
