Today we’d like to introduce you to Toshii K. D. Cooper.
Toshii, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a Licensed Massage Therapist, Reiki Master, Developer of The Atoning Chakra Massage, and the owner of Infinite Healing – A Holistic Mobile Spa. I’ve been a Massage Therapist for sixteen plus years; a Reiki practitioner for eleven plus years, a Reiki Master for seven plus years, and I developed the modality, Atoning Chakra Massage three years ago.
After high school, I went to three different colleges and pursued three different majors. Finally, I earned a B.S. degree from Xavier University of Louisiana in Business Management with a minor in Business Administration in 1996. With that, I landed a job with Merrill Lynch in New York, NY. I was pretty proud of myself as I was one of twelve, and the only African American, out of a pool of 800 selected to participate in a Management Training program. During that time, I was, also, very interested in metaphysical concepts and the art of healing by touch and absent healing. But, I didn’t think I’d generate a substantial clientele by telling people that I can heal them by laying my hands on them. Nonetheless, something clicked. And after three years of not being fulfilled within the financial services industry, I quit my job and enrolled in a Massage Therapy Program at the Swedish Institute in New York, NY. I figured I’d build my clientele via massage and then introduce healing by touch and absent healing to interested parties.
Well, it turned out that I absolutely loved the art of massage, human anatomy, and the Eastern modality, Shiatsu, which was part of the program. Immediately after completing the program, in July, 2000, I jumped right into the field of massage. I worked as I contractor at day spas, fitness facilities, yoga studios, and as a mobile therapist. It was a great time in my life. I felt free as my schedule was very flexible, I was making a lot of money, and I felt fulfilled. That all came to a halt after 911 (9/11/2001) because there was a lot of fear in New York – people were losing jobs.
To make ends meet, I decided to apply for substitute teaching. And to my surprise, I was hired on the spot as a full-time Math Teacher due to my extensive background in Math and Science. Yeah, one of those aforementioned degrees I pursued was Math. Nonetheless, I became a full-time middle school Math Teacher from January, 2002 until June 2004. I still provided massages but only on a part-time (and sometime) basis. I had been longing to move back south (I’m from New Orleans) and settled on Atlanta, GA. Thus, I departed New York June, 2004.
Though I love Mathematics and being a teacher, I really missed being a Massage Therapist. Thus, I only pursued Massage work once I arrived in Atlanta. I worked at a day spa, Chair Massage Company, and a mobile spa for about three years before I formed my own mobile spa, Infinite Healing – A Holistic Mobile Spa in the fall of 2007. It was during 2006 that I finally became a Reiki Practitioner and started healing through touch and absent healing – energy work. Though I still loved massage and energy work very much, I learned that I needed to exercise my analytical mind as well. Thus, I went back to Corporate America in 2009 and stayed until the company folded in 2014 (probably five years too long :-)).
Initially, Infinite Healing solely provided massage services. However, from 2008 until 2010, we offered esthetics and nail services, as well. During January of 2011, I decided to provide massage, Reiki, Body treatments, and guided meditations. Though, in the beginning, our services mostly targeted individuals, couples, and women booking spa parties, we have grown to offer Corporate Chair Massage, as well.
By 2013, I had the urge to enter into teaching again. This time, I taught the human anatomy, ethics as it related to Massage Therapy, and various modalities like Swedish, Deep Tissue, Prenatal, Hot Stone, Sports, Reflexology, and Spa Treatments at the International School of Skin, Nail care, and Massage Therapy in Sandy Springs, GA. Before leaving in February 2017, I taught all levels of their Massage Program and supervised their clinic floor. I still love teaching. I’m now an Approved Continuing Education (CE) Instructor via Louisiana Board of Massage, Alabama Board of Massage and the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. I’m in the process of becoming approved in other states, as well, because I love the concept of traveling. The classes I teach are energy-based – Reiki and Atoning Chakra Massage (ACM). I’m currently developing a new continuing education course – Reflexology. I love this phase in my life because I’m doing exactly what I want to do – run my mobile spa and teach my CE classes. In addition to healing by touch and providing absent healing sessions via Reiki and ACM, I am teaching others how to do it, as well. Full circle moment.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely was not a smooth road. I’d say I got in my own way by second guessing what I should pursue at times given the fact that I had so many interests.
Please tell us about Infinite Healing.
Infinite Healing is a Holistic Mobile spa. We treat the mind, body and soul via massage, Reiki, holistic body and skincare treatments, and facilitated meditations. We provide individual and couple massages and Reiki sessions, spa parties, and Corporate Chair Massage. We are mobile in the sense that we bring the experience to the home, office, hotel suite, or retreat location. Also, Infinite Healing provides Continuing Education courses to current Licensed Massage Therapists.
Since our inception, we’ve been known for our spa parties, the all-natural ingredients in the products we use, our unique Self-Facial station, and our professionalism and awesome customer service. Now, in addition to the spa parties, we are known for Corporate Chair Massage.
I’d say our superb customer service, order and organization along with some of the services like Reiki and guided meditations sets us apart from other mobile spas.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is playing in the pool with my mother and sister while we were staying at a hotel in route from California to Louisiana. It was the summer of ’79. Although I know my mother was probably a little stressed because the car broke down and we were waiting for it to be fixed, she didn’t show it. I remember feeling happy and laughing a lot with her. I remember it felt like she was having fun, too.
