Meet David Bruno of Pathways Massage & Muscular Therapy in Alpharetta

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Bruno.

David, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been working as a Muscular Therapist full time for 14yrs. I am not just your typical professional lotion applicator. I specialize in Orthopedic Massage and Muscular Therapy, this is a focus on the soft tissue, joints, ligaments and tendons. My goal is to help active people remain active and assist in their personal Path to wellness and recovery rehabilitation and body education.

Those seeking help with a mystery pain or loss of range of motion will be assessed and treated to that person’s specific issue and comfort level. I strive to regain everyone’s homeostasis through my own brand of rehabilitation through movement and manual therapy, also supplying my clients with specific exercises and self-care techniques, which they will do at home to help further their personal awareness and healing process. My ideal client is someone who exercises as hard as they work, that person who hits the gym before or after work, and simply has no time for the cool downs and stretches, or other forms of self-care. That person who has no time to maintain their aches and pains on their own, those are the people who come to me, to find their balance once again.

I work with many techniques yet never relying on just one. I am trained in many styles, from the basic Swedish, to Active Isolated Stretching, Acupressure, Neuromuscular, Cupping, Cross fiber friction and Myofascial Release.

My work is generally considered intense due to being highly therapeutic. This means that one would actively feel my works effects days later, (if that be what the work calls for that day, some days may be less intense). Just as one would go to the gym and get a heavy workout and feel sore for a day or two later, so will the average effects of my work be as well. But this is felt in the reverse fashion, as in I reverse engineer the buildup of the tension they have created in their bodies via their work outs or just from life’s stress’.

I am capable of performing lighter massages of course, but anyone can do that… you see, anyone can go out and get a massage license, but not everyone is truly a healer.

When the people out there are looking for that special therapist and manage to find me, it is not David Bruno the Muscle soother they come to see, they come to see…David Bruno~The Muscle Whisperer~.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road is never smooth, being self-employed the struggles feel often endless. I’d say the biggest struggle out there for any therapist is going to be education of the public. Most of the public back North in Boston are very progressive about their body needs and requirements. I think that may be due to living in a more harsh environment more time out of the year than not. A nasty winter day in Boston is all it takes, no shoveling required, simply walking outside in to the super freezing cold to go to work or to walk the dog, can literally through ones back out, if not into severe spasm… I personally have experienced this. So getting the word out there to folks, regarding why they should use my services, is not as an easy sell down here. It’s not that they don’t need my work, it’s that they do not yet know that they do, or rather, that they know not that relief is possible for their aches and pains, instead of just using drugs or surgery.

The second challenging thing is networking… we all know when it comes to body work, personal word of mouth is king! If your friend, mother, brother, sister, cousin, uncle, boss, trainer, you get the point… anyone close to you whom opinion you respect and value, has told you about this awesome therapist they saw and who helped them out with their aches n pains, you’d be more likely to visit them vs just reading a review from a stranger online. Let’s face facts, any type of massage is a very personal thing, and trust is vital in any and all forms of relationships.

Please tell us about Pathways Massage & Muscular Therapy.
I specialize in orthopedic massage therapy, a focus on the soft tissue, ligaments, tendons and joints. I focus on relieving people’s aches and pains and helping reverse any decreased range of motion issues they may be having.

I am known for my own personal intense active rehabilitation process through movement and manual therapy. What sets me apart from other therapist is that I am not afraid to think outside the box and actively participate in my client’s rehabilitation process. I am most proud of the results this has brought me, via the rave reviews people send out for me, as well as the people I’ve helped most over the years becoming devoted followers and dear friends, coming to me often and regularly to have me help them find and be more at peace within their bodies.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
There is not much would I have done differently, I truly feel I took the best path available to me, and it has served me well with helping my clients with their needs.

David is a true healer. I had a 90 min massage by him and trust me you WILL NOT be disappointed. He’s very knowledgeable, friendly, offers suggestions afterwards on how to prevent injury or pain from coming back. He is trained in several techniques. I had him work on scar tissue from my Achilles surgery and I used the cupping technique on my back and glutes. I felt 100% better the next day. To date, I’ve been back every month.
