Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Rodriguez.
Claudia Rodriguez or better known as Makeup by Clau in Atlanta, GA. My passion for makeup started when I was young. Unfortunately, due to life circumstances and my parents’ economic situation, I could not study what I really liked. I left my home country, El Salvador when I was a 16-year-old teenager. I was a young woman full of dreams and goals not accomplished. When I arrived in this country, Atlanta specifically, adaptation was very difficult because I had no family with me. At that young age, I already had many responsibilities. One of my main obstacles was the language, so the first thing I did was getting a job in a restaurant where they spoke my native language. On the other hand, I knew I had to learn English, so I attended school while I was working at the same time.
I worked for two years in that restaurant, but in my mind, I knew there was something else for me.
I got married at 18 and had my first child at 20. Then, I left my job to stay at home as a housewife. I had two beautiful boys. As my kids grew up, and I found myself home alone and I felt frustrated. I realized that I had to fight for my dreams!
I thought, what can I do to enjoy myself a bit? That’s when I made the decision to take a self-makeup class. My passion for makeup arise and began to grow day by day. I started practicing during nights, while my children were sleeping. A year later, my makeup business started. I found myself working for weddings, quinceañeras, social events, and teaching self-makeup classes. A lot of doors opened for me with the help of God and the support of my family!
Nowadays, I have had the opportunity to teach self-makeup classes to more than 200 girls who, like me, were housewives. I tell them my story to motivate them to continue fighting for their dreams. I have the opportunity to work in my own schedule without neglecting my family. I also work as a makeup instructor in a modeling academy called Talent Latino Modeling School.
Last year, I had the opportunity to work with well-known companies in the makeup industry such as NYX Cosmetics in Imats, and Ulta GMC with NYX Cosmetics. I have traveled to different events in the country such as the Señorita United States in Orlando and have taken several makeup classes with well-known artists in the industry. I keep learning new techniques in order to be able to share my best with my clients and students.
My dreams are coming true with a lot of effort, and mostly with a lot of dedication and perseverance!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My biggest challenge was the negative people around me. Those who don’t believe in me! They said I can’t do it.

What I am most proud of my company is that with time, I continue to grow and with the grace of God, I hope that I will be recognized as one of the top makeup artists in the beauty industry. What sets me apart from others is that I try to always make my clients feel beautiful and confident.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future is to continue preparing, to be a recognized makeup artist, and still working hard for that.
