Meet Mike Levi of MadLife Stage & Studios in Woodstock Georgia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Levi.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As fans of live music, we always thought the Woodstock / Canton / Roswell area needed a premium local music venue. While there are a number of good venues inside the perimeter, music lovers in our area were stranded. We started to research the MadLife project in 2013. We acquired our lot on Main Street in the heart of Downtown Woodstock in late 2014 and broke ground in September 2015. MadLife Stage & Studios officially opened June 3rd 2016. Since then, we have hosted more than 200 live performances in our venue and welcomed tens of thousands of music lovers to enjoy great music, food and drink. Some really amazing nights.

Has it been a smooth road?
Our construction project was from the ground up. All the site work needed to be done, we had an historic house to move and some really terrible weather to contend with. There were some challenges for sure… almost every day during construction, but nothing insurmountable.

The City of Woodstock has been very supportive from day 1. Their leadership, from the city managers team to the city counsel are truly wonderful to work with. Their guidance helped us keep the challenges in check.

Once we opened our doors and were operating, our team really came together. Our general managers, executive chef, director of marketing, booking manager, production engineers, bar-tenders, servers… really all best in class. We are fortunate to have created such a strong team so quickly.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
MadLife Stage & Studios specializes in providing our guests with great nights of food, drink and wonderful entertainment.

Headed by Executive Chef David Berry, MadLife Grill serves southern inspired cuisine, all house made, all Chef-driven. We smoke our meats in house, bake all of our breads and desserts in house… even make our own pickles and cut our own fries. Everything Chef David serves is truly special and created in our kitchen.

MadLife’s live performance venue features local, touring and legendary musicians alike, along with comedy and party/dance nights. The stage is impressive, acoustics impeccable and lighting dramatic. Although it is a reasonably intimate venue, seating 180 people, acoustically it performs like a big room – giving many of our events a larger-than-life feel. The tables in our VIP Balcony present an especially dramatic view of the stage and the venue.

We record every live performance from the control room of our studios, which is adjacent to and visible from the music venue. Recordings are all highest resolution multi-track, from a digital mix board dedicated to optimize the capture of live performances. When the right artists and the right fans come together at MadLife, magic can happen. We want to capture those magical moments. The studios are also available for session work and a number of local artists are currently tracking and producing their original work in our facilities with our engineers.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I can only speak to my experience with the City of Woodstock. I can say that every member of their team has been wonderful to work with. Woodstock is growing quickly, which can be good or bad. Thankfully, the members of the city management office, business development and city counsel have a very clear vision of how to guide and support that growth to assure residents, visitors and the businesses operating in Woodstock all benefit. MadLife is honored to be part of the Downtown Woodstock community.
