Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ OneNate.
DJ OneNate, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The art of dreaming big always came naturally to me, and growing up in Atlanta only intensified my desire to be great. Seeing entrepreneurs, celebrities, and other influencers around the city who looked the same as I did made me believe anything was truly possible… so that’s how I pursued my life.
I started off as a drummer in the church at 12. I remember being in middle school buying my own clothes with the money I earned from being a musician. Those days convinced me that I had a gift people would pay to experience. So, when the time came to retire my drumsticks and move into the next phase of my career, I did so with conviction, thus birthing DJ OneNate, the Artist Entrepreneur.
When I became a DJ Conductor (definition: Someone who uses music to strategically orchestrate music in a way that creates a desirable atmosphere for his or her audience), I focussed on creating a unique customer experience and keeping the audience involved throughout the event. I feel a strong sense of responsibility when I’m at work; you never know who hasn’t smiled all day, who had a hard week, who’s on the verge of a breakdown or hurting someone… music is a beautiful medicine that heals us with the intangible gifts of life. It can provide us with a natural high when consumed correctly, and that’s where I come in.
Creating new and exciting ways to enjoy music has always been a part of my vision, which is how The OneNate Virtual DJ Experience came into existence. One thing I’ve noticed is that sometimes people either don’t need a live DJ Conductor or obtaining one can overextend their budget. People within this market are underserved. So, in the fall of 2018, I was able to introduce an affordable Virtual DJ System that allowed users to have a fun, cost-effective, creative experience that both children and adults can enjoy. The Interactive Personal Playlist and Spotify integration ensures that users and their guest are able to party the way they desire too for the entirety of their event.
Overall, I’m hungry and grateful. Grateful that I’ve been able to work with companies such as Chick Fil A, Delta Airlines, Tmobile, Converse, and others alike. Grateful to be booked for Festivals, Concerts, Grand Openings, Weddings, Corporate Events, Fashion Shows, Workout Parties & Private Events. But I’m hungry because there’s so much work to be done, so many lives to affect, so many people that need opportunities, and so much potential for greatness beyond imagination. I’m excited about the journey.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The smoothest road in life is on easy street… but that usually doesn’t lead to success and longevity.
Starting off was tough, everyone wants what’s already proven; so if you’re not proven you’re seen as a liar.
Which is understandable, because in Atlanta everyone does everything…so whatever you say you do, a thousand other people already claim to be experts at it.
As a result, I learned how to distinguish myself from others. I learned the power of consistency, creative thinking, positive energy, and how advancement is predicated on the ability to create opportunities for yourself while also making the most of the ones placed before you.
I had an insurance business for two years. My business partner, Kenney Conwell, and I didn’t know what we were doing, but our desire to succeed didn’t allow us to fail. I lost out on a lot of money not knowing how to obtain success, but that’s when I learned that the key to life is gaining more from your losses than you lose.
I carried those same lessons into the music business. I started off making $175 for 4hrs of work at a Fridays in Kennesaw. I literally called every Fridays in and around Atlanta seeing who needed a DJ Conductor. Eventually, I received one call back. The manager invited me to their location for a trial run and said if things went well I could come every week…I became the house DJ by the end of the night. Though the money was terrible I have no regrets, that’s where I honed my skills; and from there, I just continued to work my way up.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a DJ Conductor with a concentration in special events. I provide a musical experience that keeps the crowd involved. My text request line allows attendees to text me various songs they would like to hear throughout the event. I believe in being present, so I may get on the mic, get on the dance floor, or hand out a DJ OneNate Life Of The Party Award to the livest person in the party…its all about making the most out of that moment.
TOVÉ
This Virtual DJ Service is created for those who don’t have a large budget or a large need for live music. I, or another professional DJ Conductor, will create an Interactive Personal Playlist for the user based on their music preferences for the event. With the press of a button, the music will play all night through the same brand of speakers used by professionals. Users will also have the option of obtaining a wireless microphone for their event. In addition to this, they would also have the ability to scratch, add sound effects to the music, add songs from Spotify, and perform other actions usually reserved for the professionals. TOVÉ allows you to truly Create Your Experience.
I’ve spent a lot of time focussing on what’s missing from the party scene. I asked myself how can I make parties better? What can I do to make us come together and enjoy one another even more? Every question has lead to another aspect of my services that people enjoy, which is humbling to witness. But I know more can be done.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
To quote the great Rakim, “Constant elevation is the key to expansion”…which is my primary focus. The combination of creating, building and expanding aligns with my purpose; so they require my full attention.
