Today we’d like to introduce you to Marq Williams.
Marq, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Since my adolescence, I have had a huge fascination with the process of creating movies. I vividly remember the excitement I had when I received my first camcorder and begin using my siblings to create mini-movies. This fascination traveled with me through middle school & then on to high school where I was able to really showcase my creative videography skills. I can honestly say that I knew what my career path would be all of my life. After high school, I begin to explore how I can further my skills and of course generate revenue. I lost sight of my dream for two years but never lost hope. It was in October of 2017, I begin to focus on how I can make all my dreams reality. I started writing and planning. In February of 2018, I took my writings and begin to conceptualize my first project that eventually went on to become my first short film titled “Fuck Love.” I put together a small cast, filmed with only my iPhone, & released my first accomplishment in August of 2018. From there, I begin to think “what’s next?” I begin working on a project for a friend of mine titled “Being Montel.” I officially launched my production company at the beginning of the year. Since officially starting my production company, I have produced commercials, promotional videos, music videos, & original content. It’s a blessing to be able to pursue my career goals full time and watch as all of my hard work begins to pay off. All of my dreams are beginning to become a reality.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road at all. It’s been plenty of times where I have questioned my capabilities, worried about the outcome of my future, and almost gave up. I lost sight of my dream, but I did not let it be the end of my passion. I went from filming with my iPhone to purchasing my first camera. It’s been times where I didn’t know where my next project would come from or when I would get a new client. Being an entrepreneur is an extreme risk, but if I could go back and do it all over again, I would.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Official Marq Productions story. Tell us more about it.
My production company is Official Marq Productions, which was officially launched at the beginning of the year. I brand myself as a filmmaker because I don’t limit myself to just doing one thing, but being able to be universal and focus on all aspects of the film. I specialize in conceptualizing projects and producing in its entirety. That means everything from writing & producing to directing & editing. I am proud to be able to take original ideas from people and create something bigger than what was originally envisioned. My goal as a filmmaker is to not only imagine but create. I feel it is my responsibility to not only educate but inspire everyone that watches my work.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
What you may consider as luck, I consider God’s plan. It has been plenty of times where I didn’t know what to do next or even where my next dollar would come from, but I remained positive and I don’t have to worry because I remember it is already handled.
