Today we’d like to introduce you to Lil Sk8.
Lil Sk8, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, first off, I been having this vision since I was a kid. I always wanted to put my own mark on the word and for my name to hold weight. I knew I wasn’t finna work to 9-5 that just wasn’t me. So, I say I gotta do some for these people to remember me by, so I started using what I had, and what I know how to do, which is modeling and rapping so I kept being consistent at that working on it every day and improving… so my brother had seen how infatuated I was with the fashion scene and rap scene so he pushed me to just keep doing it every day, all day inspiring me. So, I kept doing just that and people started to notice and take a liking to it and the reaction I would get from different people would really warm my heart and make me feel good so that’s when I was like, “yeah, this what I want to do”, so I’m sticking with it and I’m trying to be the greatest at this.
Has it been a smooth road?
Lol nooo, it’s never gonna be a smooth road. It’s always ups and downs with anything you do. I would say the biggest struggle for me, well, one of them is that sometimes I tend to be indecisive about things so I may make a song and ask my ppl if they like it lol everyone would say yeah, then I be like no erase that lets re-do it lol because I always feel like I can go harder then I did… so it’s like I try to outwork myself. I also tend to be a little shy but I’m over that now lol that was just when I was starting off.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Well, we’re a family before anything… gap money/skateboardsnchoppaz records, it’s a label but not just a record label for rappers and stuff. We have videographers, photographers, skateboarders, models, artist, etc. My job on the team is an artist/model/skater. I’m really proud to see how far we have grown, not just as a label but as people in general. Everyone is moving right and knowing they place which is how every team should be. I think what sets me aside from others is that regardless of where we are, who we around, imma be me so you either love it or hate it.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, Gapmoney/Skateboardsandchoppaz gonna be the biggest thing ever.
