Today we’d like to introduce you to India Hines.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I initially began my journey into radio from selling radio, writing and voicing radio commercials and producing a radio show for another radio personality. I was never interested in hosting my own radio show, but God had a different plan. My radio show is called “Food 4 Your Soul” because I wanted to give people a radio show that would focus primarily on the positive sharing “Good News only” and I felt it was important to introduce my listeners to independent artists and mainstream artists with positive messages and no profanity. All genres of music are played as long as it’s positive with no profanity. During my 13 years on air, I’ve had the pleasure of talking with many mainstream and independent artists, celebrities including Phylicia Rashad, Kenny G, Jasmine Guy, Kenny Leon (True Colors Theatre Company, Atlanta, GA) Tom Key (Theatrical Outfit, Atlanta, GA) LaTonya Richardson Jackson (Director and Actor), Pearl Cleage (Playwright & Oprah Book Club Author) to name a few. I enjoy working with Non-Profit Organizations because the causes they represent are life changing and impact many lives. I love promoting Authors with positive material, Health Experts who can educate my listeners so they want to live healthier lifestyles and on every show I share what’s going on around town with Theatre & Entertainment News. My journey hasn’t been easy with my radio show and events but through it all, I’ve believed in myself and refused to quit. Speaking of Non-Profits, I have had the pleasure of working with Dress for Success Atlanta to produce a successful fundraiser and was honored to work with the daughter of the late great Ray Charles, Sheila Raye Charles to bring Ray Charles’ children together to celebrate their father at an event called “RayUnion”. God has blessed me with the gift of my voice to help many organizations (large and small) bring their events to life as their MC, event coordinator, marketer or consultant and the one thing I know through all of this is that I have to give major credit to the many many people (family, friends, business owners, my network of loyal listeners, my radio station support and my radio show engineer, Jasmine Edmond). Without all of this support, I would not be where I am today. Two major radio sponsors, The Cochran Firm Atlanta, and Insurance Associates Atlanta have supported the radio show the entire time I’ve been on air and for that, I am so thankful. I’m in a good place as I continue to move forward. I take nothing for granted and know that I have been gifted to do what I do and I am expected to deliver excellence. My company is called No Junk Productions because a very dear friend and I worked closely to create the company when it first began and unfortunately my friend committed suicide. I didn’t see it coming and I was devastated by it and wanted to quit, but I knew that my friend would want me to move forward and so I have. I think my friend named Georgia thought she was junk and that was maybe why she committed suicide but I know better and I want to encourage people everywhere through all that I do that we are all Kings & Queens, made in God’s image and my God and your God don’t make NO JUNK! My radio show airs 5 days a week and for air times, to advertise or sponsor the show, to be a guest on the show or to book me for your future event visit www.NoJunkProductions.com and click on “Contact Us”.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Getting people to understand that “Food 4 Your Soul” is about the soul and not food (LOL) and selling that it’s POSITIVELY POSITIVE! show. At first, I got, it’s what? and what kind of food do you serve and my emails went to spam so once all of that got worked out, things were a lot easier to promote the show. Having a live show was also new for me in the beginning because I’d never done live radio and I needed help to know the ropes and two dear friends, Larry Young and Billy Daniels (two big names in the world of radio) were both mentors to me and their help was and will always be priceless. I’m also happy that my show does stream worldwide so everyone can listen even if not located in the metropolitan Atlanta area.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the No Junk Productions & “Food 4 Your Soul” The Radio Show story. Tell us more about it.
My company is No Junk Productions and I coordinate, produce, direct, MC big, small, medium events. I am also a well sought after voice talent and I consult and market through my radio show, online E-Newsletter, Text Service and social media events and businesses who need my support. My company and radio show are set apart because I deliver excellence and produce results. I am a go-getter and not afraid of the word “NO” which only motivates me. I also love people and only want to treat them as I’d like to be treated. One of my goals as a voice talent is to voice a documentary and I feel certain one day that will happen. I am most proud that God has given me this opportunity and I don’t plan to take it for granted.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The radio industry in the next decade will be dramatically different (it already is). Mainstream and Independent Artists find it very challenging to get their music played by radio stations and as a result, they have to be very creative with how to promote and sell their music. Branding is key and that’s where, my radio show “Food 4 Your Soul” is a great vehicle for mainstream and independent artists because in-studio and call-in live interviews are available, the show is heard worldwide on the web @ NoJunkProductions.com and artist bookings for No Junk Productions and other events promoted through the radio show are in high demand. Also, texting 63975 with the message NJP invites listeners to win giveaways on the show compliments of radio show sponsors and is a major plus for current and new listeners. I’m looking forward to what the future holds for “Food 4 Your Soul” The Radio Show & No Junk Productions. I am focused, I think outside the box and I’m ready to face whatever is ahead with a “YES I CAN” attitude.
