Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Ellison.
Thanks for sharing your story with us, Joseph. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been recording music since high school, however, quite recently, I chose to undertake musicianship as a career, learn an instrument and begin releasing official projects to earn money for what I love. When I was a senior in high school (Tri-Cities), I ran to be Mr. TCHS, a title afforded to one who wanted to represent the student body, and the race included a talent segment. I thought, “what better time to showcase my talents than now?” I had never performed for a crowd before, but I knew I was good at rapping. When the moment of truth was upon me, I found myself on stage in front of hundreds of eyes, overwhelmed with excitement and adrenaline. Though the performance was pretty good, a questionable line containing explicit language cost me the contest. I learned two valuable things that day: I ought to be aware of my audience and that I LOVE to perform.
From that moment on, I would take any gig I could. I’ve performed all over Atlanta, and to avoid the aforementioned fiasco I don’t curse in my music anymore. I have an album out right now on all streaming platforms called “Second Coming.” Over time, I’ve refined my singing, lyrical and guitar playing abilities, and now I believe I’ve found my niche as far as subject matter goes. Essentially I rap and sing about enlightenment. Deeper than that though, I really find myself on a stage. I feel as though energy greater than I, as an individual, takes over and flows through me to hopefully inspire others to do whatever it is that they love.
Through networking, consistency and a lot of love, I’ve grown my following enough to make money from my music. I look forward to the future with bright eyes as I anticipate opportunities to grow my platform even more and leave a positive impact on the world and the people that live in it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have a superpower. When people meet me they feel comfortable investing time and energy in my movement. What greater resource or challenge is there on the path to success than the people around you? If you can get people on board then there is no obstacle too great. I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t faced any difficulties along the way, not the least of which is actually getting more people to listen. However, because of how I carry myself and the authenticity I bring to my craft, people I come in contact with do everything they can to aid me in my journey.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I rap, I sing and I play guitar. Although, as I see more growth within my brand I find myself doing things that I never thought I’d do. I host a couple of events around Atlanta, and even put on my own show featuring independent artists from all over the city called ‘the hot spot.’ We have live music and serve hot vegan food because promoting a healthy and conscious lifestyle is the name of the game for this brand. What I believe truly sets me apart from others is the energy during my performances. It’s not uncommon for people to reach out to me after shows saying they had goosebumps or were inspired, which is basically the whole reason I do it! I’m most proud that I’ve garnered a fan base containing like-spirited beings who have experienced music’s transformative power and wish to see that power spread throughout the world to heal it. It is a movement indeed, known for spreading love and light.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel that kindness is paramount. It is imperative that anyone looking to make a large impact on the world, myself included, examine their motivations. On top of being loving to those you come in contact with, an essential quality to have is being able to check and see if you have pure intentions for what you wish to do with your success when it is acquired. I didn’t really see any progress until I did.
