Meet Alicia Washington of Sewww Lici, LTD. CO. in Stockbridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Washington.

Alicia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My desire to start sewing again hit me hard in March 2018. I couldn’t figure out why out of nowhere, I wanted to start creating again. I lost a very important person at the end of April. She was the seamstress/creator of the family. Then, it hit me, She was the reason it came to me so left field. She wanted someone to carry out her skills before she left.

I started small by making a few clutches and bows, which turned into outfits for myself, then friends and the rest is history. Sewww Lici was formed. The name came from my friends always asking “ sooo Licia, what are you creating today?” I thought the wordplay came together well. I’m all about trying to make anything! My motto is Give anything at least one try and if I’m good, I’m good! If I’m not, I’m not! But at least I tried!! – A. W.

When you love what you do, it makes it more enjoyable.

When your talent comes effortlessly, it was God Given.

What you do with it, is your gift back to God.

Sewing has always been a love of mine, and I finally decided to put that gift that was given to use.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a smooth road so far and I’m praying it stays that way. The only struggle I’ve had thus far is clients staying on top of their scheduled appointment. I don’t like having my time wasted because it is valuable to me. I’m a wife and a mother of two and the times that I have made sure is available for them is taking away from my husband and children when wasted. But it is getting better.

Sewww Lici, LTD. CO. – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Sewww Lici pronounced (sooo lesh) is custom clothing, alterations, accessories, etc company. I mainly specialize in making clothing that is custom to my client’s bodies and makes them comfortable in their own skin. I also do alterations of all kinds. From clothing to couch cushions. I create handbags, headbands, pillows, key rings, The list is endless. I’ve been known right now for swimsuits. They have been popular over the last few months. I believe I am most proud of my drive to try in create whatever is asked of me. I don’t believe in saying I can’t do it unless I have tried at least once to do it. What sets me apart for others is I strive for a personal experience. I don’t want my clients to feel like a shopping cart. I want them to be able to tell me exactly what they want and don’t and make it happen.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment thus far is when my husband actually gave me his man cave so that I could have a space for my business to create. It just showed me that he truly believes in my craft and that me having a space to do what I love is important.
