Meet Tracy Gober of Tracy Gober Photography in Lawrenceville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Gober.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Photography has always been a part of my life. If I wasn’t in front of the camera then you would catch me behind the lens…but always being an admirer of a great image. Images that tell a story along with showing history.

I can remember my Big Ma telling stories of our family’s history, but a lot of those stories were shared with portraits of our family. Or my grandmother showing me a portrait of my Great grandmother for the first time and immediately seeing where some of my features came from.

This was my history that was being told through images and I wanted to know more…more of who I was. These special moments with my Big Ma and my Grandmother, along with Love and sharing special moments in one’s life would be the beginning of why I wanted to be a photographer.

I started joining photography network groups, learning the basics of photography and taking a lot more portraits of family and friends…but just shooting every opportunity that was given to me.

So, with a lot of thought and encouraging words from my husband and my closest family and friends I started Tracy Gober Photography.

I’m excited about this journey I’m on. I truly love and get inspired every day by being a photographer. All I want is to give another family what I had, that moment of seeing a portrait and it starts a conversation with the old and new generation. And every time the family is together grandma pulls out that old wedding album that gives her that warm misty eyed feeling. I want what I capture today to be someone’s history 20yrs from now.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all, this is a very competitive industry. So, I had to learn that not every person that came to me would be the client for me. That’s not easy to come to terms with, I’ve had those, why and is it really worth it moments when trying to understand the big picture.

Struggling to find a way to market your business because you’ve never taken a marketing class a day in your life or stepping out of your little box because in order to get business you’ve got to get out of your own way and make things happen.

But what helps with those struggles is knowing I have Clients who believe in me, and who will text me saying “I was doing my weekly look at our wedding album and started to cry, because you captured Every single moment that brought me back to the absolute Best day of my life!”

I’m originally from Battle Creek, MI and my support system comes from family and friends there and locally. So, even though there are struggles and disappointments…there is a village that is filled with a whole lot of Support.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Tracy Gober Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a on location photographer, which means packing my lighting, backdrops and other equipment and setting up shop in a client’s homes, or finding that perfect outside location that makes my client feel comfortable.

Though I specialize in Weddings I also capture headshots for Actors/screenwriters. Seniors, Newborn, Special events, Bands, children, family, maternity photography and much more.

Recently, receiving the 2017 Couples’ Choice Award for being in the top five percent of wedding professionals for Atlanta on WeddingWire.com…makes me very proud. This was an opportunity for my clients to tell others what they thought of the quality of my work, my professionalism, my service and my responsiveness as a business owner. Another proud moment for me is expanding my business by adding Maternity gowns that I personally make myself.

What sets me apart from others is just being me, getting to know my clients on a personal level, understanding what they expect from me allows me to give them the best photoshoot experience.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
It’s interesting because when we look back about 10years ago one of the things that stands out to me the most are camera phones. How we capture moments now with the Androids and the iPhone is nothing like it was 10yrs ago. So, I definitely see the quality of phones and what they will be capable of, totally changing in the next 5-10yrs.

But with photography there’s no limit to what’s to come. I would just say, Be Ready!
