Today we’d like to introduce you to Bep.
Bep, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started cosplaying in 2016 but didn’t start learning how to craft until 2017. I’ve always been interested in anime and geek culture, but never got into expressing it until I was an adult. Once I started crafting, I just couldn’t stop. I currently own six different sewing machines and have my own sewing room plus a workshop. I pattern, sew, fabricate props, and style all of my own wigs. By doing that I’ve accumulated a larger following on social media. I’ve also been fairly comfortable with my body so I’ve periodically done more revealing cosplays as well. The enjoyment of creating something from the ground up really spoke to me.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s always been a little rough. The hobby is extremely expensive. I don’t make enough off of it to do it full time yet, but that’s my end goal. Like any hobby, there’s toxicity and not so pleasant people. I’ve considered quitting many times because of that, but I could never stop crafting. With a larger following I have to be very cautious about who I allow to get close to me and I don’t make new friends as often as I’d like. I’ve had stalker issues before as well so I do not use my real name or say where I work for that reason.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bep Cosplays – what should we know?
In the cosplay world, I’m called a bodysuit queen, I can make most bodysuits within a 2-3 hour timespan because of how many I’ve made. I almost exclusively work in stretch-pleather fabrics and try to get as accurate as I possibly can with my outfits. I’m happy to know my sewing and progress inspires others to get into it and even try themselves! I want to be as helpful as I possibly can to people.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My mom has been a massive supporter in all of this and I can’t thank her enough. My amazing followers who have helped me put together costumes and funded so many things for me. I have my main support system of my friends: Jelli, Morgan, Ryn, Nikki, Laura, Brad, and my lovely boyfriend, Clark. The photographers that have worked with me to create so many amazing images and all of the people that have given me tips and pointers!
