Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Winston.
Marcus, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I actually started doing music as a member of the US Navy. When the ship I was stationed on was out at sea for deployment one year I ordered some portable studio equipment to be airlifted in. From then I recorded my first project, started selling it to people around the ship, and the rest is history.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all. There have been countless obstacles along the way. Establishing yourself in the music business is very hard to do especially in a market as crowded as Atlanta.
Tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am an independent Hip Hop recording artist. I am probably most known for my live performances. I have my own live band and there very few artists on my genre that have their own band. That definitely sets me apart in the Atlanta music scene. I was recently awarded Performer of the Year in the Atlanta Hip Hop Awards this year and winning that was one of my proudest accomplishments
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
