Today we’d like to introduce you to Benjamin Spellman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Benjamin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been around music almost all my life. My mother was a singer and she always had music playing around me. Growing up, I was around the church most of my life. I would sing in church but never really anywhere else. I didn’t begin taking music seriously until my senior year of high school when I started recording with my friends. Recording music is just the start for me, I have many other avenues I am working and building towards.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I can say it has not been the smoothest journey but I’m grateful for it. Being an artist, many people perceive it as one way, when really there is so much behind closed doors. Finances, relationships, and free-time can all be affected by this life. It’s not easy work either, writing original songs all the time and staying consistent with content. Over time I have learned better and better ways to balance everything around me to live the life I want.
What else should we know?
I am an independent recording artist, so I distribute all my music and own the rights to all my music. As my brand grows, I plan to branch out into making a collective/label to hone in other artists and creatives.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would not change much in what I have done in the past, but if anything I would save more money.
