Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Dunbar.
Timothy Isaiah was born in West Palm Beach FL, November 25. Growing up, he did not have any friends due to moving around so much and his introverted nature. There wasn’t much of a father figure in Timothy’s household, so, Being the youngest boy of his mother’s five children, he looked up to his older brothers for guidance as well as influence. At a young age, Timothy acquired an interest in music in the form of rapping; that of which he obtained from his older brother, who would later become incarcerated (30-year prison sentences). For several years, there wasn’t any contact between the brothers. One day, Timothy decided to reach out to his brother but the only way he knew how to communicate was through Music so he decided to write his brother in the form of a rap, asking questions like- how his brother was doing, and Timothy telling his brother how his life was going as well. Several months later, Timothy came home to a response letter from his brother answering all of his questions and also communicating in the form of a rap. Once this form communication was established again that’s when Timothy realized he could express himself through this form of art and he decided to dedicate himself to the music; and he even majors in business management/marketing, because he feels it will support his passion for the music industry. After moving to Georgia to attend college, and releasing his first EP “ISM” Timothy attended several open mic events, where, he eventually meet Ryan Johnson of “Nexus Entertainment and Sports;” who saw Immense talent in the artist, provided Timothy with a steady stream of performances. After a few short months, Ryan was about to get Timothy into his first paid performance at “The Rebirth” an annual event put on by “The Sound Machine of Atlanta.” Timothy has been making substantial progress ever since.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were several struggles that I had to deal with, such as being so far away from family.
Dealing with his father being shot in the back, while I was still in school. One of my brothers being shot in the leg. Or my younger brother and sister being molested by one of their family members.
Being the first and the ONLY of twelve siblings to attend high school, and to graduate being able to attend college.
Struggling with depression while trying to find who I was as an individual.
Having resentment towards both parents who were abusive.
Losing scholarships for sports due to two torn ACL’s.
Becoming a drug dealer in order to purchase the things I needed.
Being kicked out of school after going to jail for committing assault on several school officials (got into a fight with some of the football coaches).
What do you do? What do you specialize in?
Specializing in music is what I do best. My ability to story-tell reflects a genuineness in my music that helps others relate, feel involved, and engaged. There is also a type of rawness portrayed through my music which resonates well with my listeners
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment has been hearing my supporters tell me that they not only identify with my music but that my music has touched or inspired them in some form or fashion.
