Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Morgan.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I had always had a love for cars. While I was on campus at Morehouse College, I was known for doing extensive work on my own car, as well as my classmates vehicles. What began as a quick hustle to have money in my pocket developed into a passion and ultimately a career. I began working at Lexus as a detailer, with little to no knowledge about the field. I took the fake it till you make it approach, or on-the-job-training if we are being technical because they were paying high and I needed a job. In learning the skill, I developed a passion for auto restoration and appearance enhancement. I was a physics major at Morehouse, transferred to Kennesaw State as an engineering major, and upon moving around through corporate positions with Honda and Tesla, I decided I would pursue full-time self-employment.
From doing shows like V103 Car and Bike Show, being part of car clubs, and my networks largely from Tesla, I built a large enough clientele to support myself financially. I then took all I had learned while matriculating at Morehouse and KSU, and applied those networking and accounting skills to the business, going from annual income in the teens to the hundreds of thousands. From what started as a hustle fueled by a hobby, is now growing into a multi-million dollar pillar in the automotive community here in Atlanta.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely Not! One of the biggest struggles I encountered was a combination of self-doubt and peer pressure. I decided to abandon higher education to pursue this career and entrepreneurial lifestyle. My mother was always in my corner, but other family members were not as supportive. It hurt as the years went by seeing all of my friends, associates, and even enemies graduate. The amount of money I was spending on an education, with a mom trying to make ends meet, it just didn’t make sense to me I knew there had to be a better way. There were days and months where I was depressed because it felt like I was running in place. I lost about eight family members in 2015 and that really killed my motivation and drive. The hardest part of having to rise above anything is when you feel you have to do it on your own. But when you come out on the other side, and you succeed beyond the goals you even set for yourself, its the greatest feeling in the world.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Majestic Auto Detail story. Tell us more about the business.
Majestic Auto Detail is an auto appearance enhancement company. We specialize in full paint correction, vinyl wrapping, bodywork, custom paint jobs, ceramic coating, window tinting, as well as interior detailing. We tend to do a lot of work on classic cars and high-end exotic vehicles such as McLaren and Rolls-Royce. Where we really shine is taking cars where the paint is destroyed or has lost its gloss, and bringing the cars back to showroom quality. What I love most about the company is that is entirely 100% Black Owned and operated, a major feat considering the clientele that we attract and retain. What sets us apart from others shops is that we not only deliver the highest quality of work in metro Atlanta, but we are also the most efficient and competitively priced without sacrificing quality of work.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe there has been any luck, just blessings. God has made ways and opened doors where I didn’t even think there was another room. The people I have met, whether in passing or in actual meetings, I believe was divinely presented to me. It’s just up to us as humans to receive what God has presented to us, or ignore it. Everything has a purpose in our lives, to either build or destroy, to create or inspire. Even the times where I felt my back was against the wall, when you have to leave the food at the front of the grocery store because the money you thought you had didn’t exist, or when you take a faith step towards your dreams against the advice of your teachers but you end up making more than them, nothing is luck. These are just life experiences that will either cause you to elevate or disintegrate.
