Meet Bethany Smith-Morgan and Christina Andrews

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bethany Smith-Morgan and Christina Andrews.

Bethany and Christina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Christina and I have been best friends since middle school and talk to each other on almost a daily basis. Our conversations always cover a wide range of topics, some silly, some serious and most of them funny as hell (if we do say so ourselves). A few years ago, we started really getting into podcasts and thought we could add our voices into the growing media genre. We’re both from Atlanta and have lived here for the majority of our lives so naming our podcast Lemon Pepper Wet was a reflection of that and also an ode to one of our favorite shows, “Atlanta.”

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Schedule coordination has always been our main struggle. When we started, we were a trio but along the way, our third cohost decided to further her education, Christina took on a new career path in addition to her full-time job and I started working a lot more as well. We both agree that balancing work, social life, family, self-care, and hobbies are super important, so we’ve been working on a recording schedule that fits in with our lifestyle.

Tell us about what you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
We are a podcast hosted by two 30 something-year-old black women. We specialize in talking shit, minding other people’s business as well as our own, and speaking about issues and current events that are relevant to the intersections we represent. Honestly, we’re most proud of the fact that we’re still recording a year and a half later. It’s hard to stay committed to something that takes a lot of time and effort to do well, so we’re patting ourselves on the back for still being here. What sets us apart from the rest? Because of how close we are, we’re not afraid to ask each other real, thought-provoking questions followed by laughter to break the tension. We challenge you to find a better best friend duo out there.

What were you like growing up?
Basically, the exact same way we are now just with a smaller vocabulary. Fun fact: Christina and I had a column in our school newspaper called “The Best Month Ever” where we “upgraded” and “downgraded” people or events around our school. Looking back, that column subconsciously inspired the format of our podcast.
