Today we’d like to introduce you to Kisha “Coach K” Simmons.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I can pinpoint the catalytic moment to the summer when I was 14 years old. I was born and raised in Port Arthur, Tx, which is also the hometown of legendary rappers UGK. Throughout my childhood, I experienced a multitude of trauma and trials due to drug abusers as parents. Because of this, along with other abuse experienced, I became labeled as at-risk youth and suicidal teen by age 14. This was also the time when I took a stand to change my future, even though I could not change my past. Although I lacked parental guidance, God granted me with wise women that would impart wisdom in the very moments I needed it. These women would become my shero’s and role models. It was their knowledge and compassion shared, that led me to the moment of becoming that exact same thing for teen girls today.
As a teen, I knew what it was like, to not know your identity and just want someone to hear the struggles you faced daily. Although I began my career in fashion, God led me to become a certified Teen Life Coach, Mental Wellness Consultant and founder of teen nonprofit, Teen KICK.
With my degree in psychology and years of experience educating and empowering youth, I’ve not only hosted multiple conferences for teens but also in and out of school 8-week enrichment programs in various cities, as well as educating teachers and parents through my signature workshops. After just one year as a 501c3 nonprofit organization, Teen KICK has grown to the launch of multiple chapters in Port Arthur, Houston, Texas City, Austin, Dallas, and Covington, Ga. We’ve even been asked to bring Teen K.I.C.K. to Canada and the UK!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth road at all! It seems that as soon as you commit fully to doing God’s will for your life, the enemy comes to attack in MULTIPLE ways! Some of the struggles has been finding the right team in the beginning while Teen KICK was growing rapidly in such a short time. After a year of struggles and doing plenty on my own, I finally got the right board members in place and gaining the right staff daily!
One of the biggest learnings has been to NEVER compromise, no matter what. God gave you the vision… stick to it and He will bring the right people, at the right time.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Teen KICK Nonprofit & KICK Consulting story. Tell us more about the business.
Teen K.I.C.K. mission is to enrich and empower girls between the ages of 12-18 globally, who will own their individuality and become bold enough to K.I.C.K societal views by becoming exactly who they desire to be. With teen depression increasing over 37% and suicide rates “reaching it’s highest points in 40yrs,” Teen KICK enrichment programs teach girls to love their uniqueness and build sisterhood over comparison.
We are most proud of offering teen girls education and empowerment in more than one area. We focus on teaching these teens to become well in all areas which include mental, physical, feminine and spiritual health! Teen K.I.C.K acronym stands for (K)know who you are in Christ, (I)ignite the confidence from within, (C)dare to Compare NOT & Confidently speak, (K)keep moving forward past all obstacles and this is what sets us apart from others.
KICK Consultancy is my agency that provides Teen Life Coaching and Mental Wellness Consultancy. I help teen girls break through barriers to unlock their full potential academically and socially while also teaching how to incorporate mindfulness and mental wellness to academic curriculums and daily activities to the adults who serve them.
