Meet Danielle Glover of Twelve23 Beauty in Decatur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Glover.

Danielle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am the proud wife to a king and together we have three amazing children. I was born and raised in Lake County, Illinois. I graduated from Waukegan High School and worked for a Fortune 500 company for almost ten years until I was laid off in 2016.

This was when my life changed for the better! I started my journey into being a full-time entrepreneur. I sold women’s shoes online and wanted to open a storefront. In 2017, I was blessed to be apart of The BossBabe Popup Shop which was a store located in downtown Chicago. This store featured eight different female-owned businesses and it felt amazing to be apart of something so great!

My family and I made the decision to relocate to Atlanta in 2017. The plan was to open Twelve23 Shoetique and Spa, funny thing about plans is they always change. I’ve always done hair but my passion was eyebrows. After searching for a school to attend I found out about the Master Cosmetology program which would allow me to receive hair, nail, barber, and esthetic training. During my studies my passion for eyebrows slowly changed to a passion for helping others to see the beauty in themselves. Seeing the look on their face once I was finished doing their hair, facial or waxing brought so much joy and peace to my heart. I knew what it felt like to feel low and I wanted to make sure anyone I could touch would never feel the way I did, even if the feeling only lasted as long as the hairstyle, I wanted them to feel beautiful!

I am the proud owner of Twelve23 Beauty Salon Suite located in Decatur. Our mission is to help others find the beauty within themselves without losing who they are. So many people believe they have to look a certain way in order to stand out when all you have to do is BE YOU! Beauty isn’t measured by what’s on the outside, it’s what’s on the inside. I speak life into my clients and I let them know whatever it is they may be facing, it’ll get better.

If it’s one thing I want everyone to take from my journey it will be to never give up! I could have given up so many times after so many let downs, but I used it to make me stronger. Also understand what you may have planned for your life is something different than what God has planned. Live your life with purpose and help others! Sometimes the dirtiest roads lead to the most beautiful land!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has not been easy! There were so many times I cried and questioned our decision to move away from home, our family and friends, and our comfort zone. I remember being in beauty school and I had a client cry in my chair. She didn’t like her hair at all! This made me feel like a complete failure and I honestly wanted to drop out of school.

Another struggle I had was balancing being a wife, mom, and full-time student in 2 different schools. I didn’t know many people here and my husband was still working back home in Illinois and only came home every other weekend. So finding time to be everything they needed me to be while also trying to figure out who I am was extremely difficult.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Twelve23 Beauty – what should we know?
Twelve23 Beauty is your one-stop shop for everything beauty from head to toe. We specialize in natural hair care, braiding, and microshading. Our specialty is silk pressing and sleek ponytails. We offer full body waxing, eyebrow tinting, and facials. Not only are we your one-stop beauty salon, we also have women’s clothing, purses, and shoes.

We are proud to be welcomed by so many people being a new business in a new state. The support we have received has been God sent and we are thankful and blessed to have each and every one of our loyal clients.

What sets us apart from the other businesses is our genuine spirit. We have a unique connection with each and every one of our clients. There have been times when we’ve laughed, cried, and prayed with our clients. We are all about girl power and women uplifting and supporting each other! The future is female!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe my bubbly personality has contributed a lot to my success. You have to make your clients feel welcomed, important, and loved. I treat all of my clients as if they are close family. I seek advice and I give advice. I make sure they are comfortable and let them know how much I appreciate them and their support.
