Today we’d like to introduce you to Taeler Buchanan.
Taeler, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved to Atlanta, Georgia in October 2017 by way of Houston, Texas to pursue Georgia’s active indie film industry. I maneuvered my way through a few circles and found the perfect cast for my first pilot project, Hollywood (Invisible Ties) which just recently premiered on Amazon Prime and RokuTV. I actually wrote, directed and produced it solo so I’m majorly proud of my first baby! I’m currently writing, directing, and producing a mini-drama series with my production company called “The Things We Survive.” Ever since I made that first step in 2017, I’ve gotten a lot better, gained a lot more knowledge, and have met some AMAZING people in this industry.
Has it been a smooth road?
Film is never a smooth journey, LOL. Micro-budgeting is a struggle and getting people to believe in you with a micro-budget is even harder.
Any advice for other women, particularly young women who are just starting their journey?
Ladies stay steadfast, keep pushing and don’t give up! I actually looked for more aspiring actors/actresses and crew members versus already established members in the industry, because they empathize more with trying to make a dream come true. I’ve always been the type to root for the underdog anyway and my passion is matched along with quite a few creatives here in ATL. The sky is the limit.
We’d love to hear more about Cre8tive Collective, C8C STUDIO.
My company is an independent media production company. We strive to bring any visual concept from dream to reality and we support micro-budgeting for the indie creators out there. What sets us apart is, aside from media production, we want to create a supportive space for ALL creative types. Writers, dancers, actors/actresses, musicians, artists, and photographers all have a home with us at Cre8tive Collective. We’ve been hosting interactive events to get creatives to network in their established niches, while we wait for the renovations on our headquarters to be finalized. It will be a beautiful, artistic building designed especially for the creative mind to create amongst fellow creatives, as well as holding our media production facilities on its top level. There is so much coming in the future and it’s all very exciting!
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I would say utilize the resources that are available to you. A lot of people frown on networking through Facebook for some reason, but I’ve found some of the most creative and yes, SUCCESSFUL, people there who are always willing to give advice or even a hand if they’re local. I will forever be grateful for the networks I’ve created through Facebook. It’s also the perfect place to find hundreds of relevant networking events, summits/conferences, and festivals in your area. Never underestimate the Internet’s powers!
