Meet Dj Ricky Moss

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dj Ricky Moss.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started in 2004, in Marietta, GA. DJ Southanbred, threw a high school party with a good friend of mine, DJ Cube. They brought out the WHOLE CITY and here I am standing in the back of the admission line. LOL. Once DJ Cube spotted me, he asked me to help take some of his equipment inside, so I did. After that, I stayed inside and had the opportunity to stand onstage next to the biggest group blowing up out of Atlanta, at the time, Ellenwood’s own Crime Mob! It was at that very moment that I knew I wanted to be a DJ.

From that day forward, I was locked in with DJ Southanbred and the SBE Clique (Southanbred Entertainment Clique). I started out by passing out party flyers at all of Marietta’s high school football and basketball games, Cumberland Mall, and even movie theaters.

A very pivotal part in this story was when, DJ Cube taught me how to set up DJ equipment , but I was always asking what this button do? How do you turn up the volume? How do you put a cd in. DJ Southanbred has an in home studio and I woke up out of my sleep at like 3 am hooked up the turntables while Dj Southanbred was on the computer and he recorded my first mix just to let me listen to myself. So from that day forward He taught me how to Perfect my craft and the rest is literally history!

I DJ’d my first party at Figure 8 on the Westside of Atlanta. That one party alone, help me create a name for myself and people began to request my DJ’ing services at other clubs and house parties.

I was in the prime of my DJ’ing career when I decided to go to college and play basketball, because I quickly got tired of being in the club every night. I applied to the oldest HBCU Talladega College  in Alabama where there wasn’t a huge party scene like Atlanta. I then realized, the night life in Talladega, was a pure TRASH!  There were times I thought to myself, “Man, I have to get back to the Atlanta clubs ASAP, because this ain’t it!” LOL. But I stayed and tried out for the basketball team; made it and we went on to win a National Championship for Talladega College in 2009! Go Tornadoes !

Every summer, while I was in college, I came back home to DJ. In 2009, I found a hole in the wall club by the name of Runaround Sues in Marietta. I began to promote there every Wednesday night. The first artist I brought was Travis Porter, who’s club banger “All the Way Turnt Up” was blowing up the charts! The turnout was everything I imagined and more! Other artist I bought out were K Camp, Mykko Montana, Roscoe Dash, Kirko Bangz, Pastor Troy, Young Dro, Cash Out, 2 Chainz, Rich Homie Quan, Slim Dunkin, Future, Sammie and lots more.

As I’ve gotten older and more mature, I’ve quietly been transitioning from the “Club DJ” to the “WEDDING ENTERTAINER.” In early 2018, I joined forces with One Night Entertainment {@onenightatl}, an event production entertainment group. We are slowly taking over the wedding scene, here in Atlanta, just check out our Wedding Wire reviews!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, it hasn’t been a smooth road throughout this long journey. I’ve had multiple car break-ins, where it took me 3 years to recover all my music, because that was before the “digital iCloud age.” I was still using CD’s at that time. Another car-break-in forced me to purchase ALL NEW DJ equipment. Then, during my senior year of college in 2011, I was diagnosed with second stage Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Cancer. Although, I was still able to graduate on time, the chemotherapy and radiation takes a lot out of you physically and mentally. I was still DJ’ing as if everything was normal too! The key to my struggles was to never give up and keeping faith in God. Being an entrepreneur, you have some good months and you have some bad ones, but you have to be willing to make sacrifices in order to survive those “bad” months!

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment, over this 15-year journey, was Valentine’s Day  2019. Instead of spending the entire day with my lady, I was honored to Dj for the elderly at East Lake Arbor Hospice Center, in Decatur GA. To see the smiles that I put on their faces, was priceless! It was all I could think about for weeks! I was even featured on Fox 5 News!
