Meet Jenée Humphrey of Morning Dew Style in Mableton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenée Humphrey.

Jenée, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a child, my parents knew at an early age that I had an eye for fashion. I could recall the details of anyone’s wardrobe that I admired, often noticing even the smallest embellishments. I grew up in the Smyrna area and enjoyed frequent Saturday shopping excursions with my mother and checking out the latest trends.

As a kid, I wanted to be a fashion designer or artist. It wasn’t until I got much older that I drifted from this desire and decided to focus more on building a career in corporate America and becoming an entrepreneur. So I decided to go to college to study Marketing so I could bring the worlds of business and creativity together. While in college, I expressed my love of fashion by participating in fashion shows, helping to style friends, and doing hair. After graduating from college, I landed a job and was excited to begin my career at a marketing firm. However, I soon realized that this job was not enough, so I received a cosmetology license specializing in hair design.

By this time, I had been married for about two years and my husband and I decided to start our family. We welcomed our first bundle of joy and we were so excited about becoming parents. We knew we wanted to have more children, so we decided to try again when our son turned two. We were pregnant again and couldn’t wait to meet our newest addition. During a routine check up we received the worst news ever, that there was something wrong. We soon found out that we were having a daughter and that she was ill. We hoped and prayed that she would be ok but sadly lost her at 19 weeks of pregnancy. This loss hit us both hard, but we were oddly still experiencing joy. We knew that the type of joy we were experiencing could only come from God. We decided to name our daughter Joy because of what God had given us during this time. We tried again and later welcomed our second son.

Fast forward to another shopping excursion with my mother where she finds some stretch bracelets that I had to convince her not to buy. I told her that we could make something nicer. With Mother’s Day just around the corner, that experience gave me the idea to try and make her some jewelry as a gift. I had never made jewelry before (outside of childhood crafting), but I was certain I could create something for her that was nicer than what we had seen. ️ So that desire to make jewelry for my mom for Mother’s Day turned into friends and family asking me to make them jewelry as well. My business mind began to turn and I decided to create a brand and call it Morning Dew Style. My desire was to use the brand to honor my daughter’s life and to bring encouragement to others who had been through what my husband and I had or to just inspire others through our story. Through our tough time we experienced the eternal truth that “weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning”.

During this time, I was still working at the marketing firm but was becoming less sure that I wanted to stay the corporate route. I had two small children that I wanted to spend more time with as well as the lingering desire to be an entrepreneur. So after much thought, I took the plunge to become a “mompreneur”, a stay at home mom/entrepreneur. I realized that my love of fashion was now being expressed through my jewelry creations and I was totally in my happy place. I love the flexibility of being my own boss and spending quality time with my family. God blessed my husband and I with another son and we are grateful for our three boys.

As a jewelry designer, every piece of jewelry that I create expresses my sense of style and shares parts of my story. My design esthetic is tribal, bohemian, and touches of sparkle. I love creating bold statement pieces that can adorn the simplest of outfits. I believe jewelry should be fun and bring joy to the wearer. I sell my jewelry online, at in-home shows, vendor events, and anywhere I am invited. I also use my platform to share my story at speaking engagements to encourage others that may have similar stories to mine or who need to know that experiencing hardships or tragedies does not have to be the end of their stories.

Has it been a smooth road?
There have been some challenges along the way, like trying to identify my niche in a saturated jewelry market as well as the best means of reaching my audience (i.e., online, in-person, etc.). Having to identify suppliers and sourcing raw materials has also been a challenge I’ve faced.
