Today we’d like to introduce you to Floyd Rounds Jr.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Floyd. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Sure! I’ve written a book called Floyd’s Story: A Letter to Dalilah. The book tells my own true story while also discussing important issues that I dealt with such as co-parenting, child custody, paternity, grieving, relationships, general manhood/womanhood and much more. I wrote it because I have been through some things in my life that have formed an amazing story, and hearing about it could possibly change the lives of many people who have been through some of the same things, especially men.
The co-parenting chapter centers around extremely crazy circumstances that I encountered while raising a child with a woman that I hardly knew. This woman also happens to be a Georgia state politician, which brings an interesting element to my story. It was through questions about child support and child custody that some dark secrets were revealed from this person, and I had to navigate these while still being the father that this child needed. There are men and families that have undergone similar situations, and I offer ways to deal with these tough situations because our side is often not heard.
I lost my amazing brother in a tragedy when he was only 20 years old, and the chapter on grieving and losing a loved one is based on his story. I had to learn how to deal with losing him while continuing to live on, and I discuss some of the things that I learned that can help people deal with the loss of loved ones close to them. I have been in many relationships and I am currently in a marriage, so I have seen a lot and I discuss some lessons that may benefit people who are currently in relationships or marriages, as well as future ones that they may enter. I look at my book as a buffet – there’s something in it for everyone! One thing that differentiates my book from others is that I do not just talk about my own story and leave it at that – I also teach lessons throughout the book based on what I gained from my experiences, and how others can use this knowledge to help them in their journeys through life.
I wrote Floyd’s Story: A Letter to Dalilah from different perspectives for EVERYONE. Therefore, whether someone is a father, mother, husband, wife, son, daughter, brother or sister – there is something that they can take from this book that can be applied to their life or something that they can pass on to someone else to help them in theirs. My story is REAL, and it is TRUE. And I guarantee that there is not a book out there that talks about all the things that I discuss in my book, and definitely not in the way that I discuss them. I bring up conversations that need to be had. It is time to have them.
Has it been a smooth road?
Writing this book was not a smooth road when I first started it. First, I had to get a handle on my situation itself. I knew that I had to cut someone from my life that was toxic to it and my family, and in doing so I knew that I would also have to sacrifice time with the child that my family and I had raised for eight years. That situation was the catalyst for my book. I also had to relive the bad times (along with the good) from other tough situations that I capture in the book, such as the loss of my younger brother and some truths that were unveiled early on when I had custody issues with the mother of the child that I was raising (the child is represented as “Dalilah” in the book).
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Floyd’s Story: A Letter to Dalilah – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am very proud to say that I am now officially an author! One of my greatest accomplishments was releasing my book on June 14th, 2019.
My book is different from other books out there because I talk about my story that contains the confrontation of topics that people are not discussing openly such as child custody and co-parenting, paternity issues, losing a loved one and approaching the grief process, and much more. I discuss these topics in a way that makes it easy for anyone to read. I am proud of the way that I was able to tell my story in such a captivating way while also discussing valuable lessons that can and will help many men and families that have gone through or are currently dealing with situations similar to the ones I describe in my book.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Atlanta because you can find everything here, and you can do everything here. I was raised in the suburbs west of Atlanta (Austell/Mableton) so I know this city like the back of my hand. I like the diversity of Atlanta, and it continues to get more diverse as it grows daily. This is a good place to start and run a business, especially for minorities.
I would have to say that the things that I like least are the traffic, rain, and humidity. I have been here long enough to get used to the rain but I still do not like it! You have to keep good tires on your car here for that and the occasional potholes.
