Meet Princess Davis of Royal Daisy Designs in Lawrenceville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Princess Davis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been extremely passionate about fashion. I grew up watching Project Runway & America’s Next Top Model. I’ve wanted to be a fashion designer since I was 9 and even still have some of my first clothes drawing I made in elementary school. In middle school, I started DIYing my clothes & learned how to sew.

When I was in high school, I always made clothes for myself & my friend’s football games. I went to college at Alabama A&M & and majored in fashion design & merchandising and really began perfecting my craft.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Making clothes has always been easy for me. I feel like it’s in my blood because all the women in my family sew (except my mom lol). The most difficult part has just been building clientele because I make custom clothing and we live in a world of fast fashion where people want things right then and there. Also, even though I’m from Atlanta, I went to college out of state, so I don’t know a lot of people outside of the people I grew up with. However, through networking and doing fashion show & pop-up shops I’m slowly building my clientele.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Royal Daisy Designs story. Tell us more about the business.
Royal Daisy Designs is a women’s clothing brand that makes clothing for women of all sizes. I specialize in women’s petite clothing (petite meaning short not skinny) because I know the struggle of being short and not being able to find clothing that fits quite right or is the right length. The aesthetic of my brand is Urban Glam meaning I combine streetwear styles with chic fabrics & embellishments. What sets my brand apart is that every piece is sewn by me custom to my client’s measurements. I have collection pieces that are on my website & I also do custom looks that I create specifically for a client from start to finish. I also provide wardrobe styling services & do alterations.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t necessarily believe in luck. I just believe that God has blessed me and aligned me with the right people, and I take every experience whether good or bad and use it as a learning experience.
