Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy McKie.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started in September of 2012. I wanted to do something that I could look at as a positive outlet in my life. There are times when life is really hard, and some people don’t know how to truly handle it. Used to, I would turn to alcohol or something destructive until I found my passion for photography.
My former pastor, Rev. Conitras Houston, of Trinity A.M.E., was the first person I went to when I decided to start my business, she said great, I have your first event, Praise In the Park. From there, I worked, worked hard, growing more and more with every event and shoot. I’ll never forget, my first celebrity, came while working for a promoter out of Columbus, Ga, JB Johnson, the first concert was Keith Sweat, and I fell in love with event and concert photography after that.
From there, I have had the opportunities covering concerts and events featuring R&B singers Monica, Mary J. Blige, Xscape and also an upcoming artist, Kimani Edwards, also Gospel legends Karen Clark Sheard and Earnest Pugh, as well as Alexis Spight, from the show Sunday’s Best. These are just a few people that I have had the pleasure of capturing.
I have been doing photography for six years, seven years September 2019, and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for me and Vintage Photography.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Awe man, LOL! No, this road hasn’t been easy at all, there have been times where I would go months without any bookings, so many times, in the beginning, I wanted to give up, but between my faith and my support system, they wouldn’t allow me to give up on my dreams. One top advice I would give is to never give up… keep your faith and support system close by. Piece of advice that was given to me, “You gotta see it before you can see it, or you never will see it.” Meaning, if you can’t see that dream and passion before manifestation, then you won’t ever see it.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Vintage Photography story. Tell us more about it.
I am the owner and photographer of Vintage Photography. I’m known for my dope and unique photoshoots along with some amazing event images.
As a brand, I am proud of what I have been able to do, the growth in my field.
What sets me apart, my personality. I get personal with each client, the more comfortable, the better the client feels and the less nervousness seen in the images.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
It is hard to be taken seriously as a female leader.
