Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarvis Walker.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jarvis. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’d say it all started because of 8th grade and girls! Haha… My dad and stepmom were considered as lower-class working people and haircuts every week for three (my dad, stepbrother and I) were completely out of the question. My uncle was a barber and I would nag him about coming over to cut my hair and he’d do it … sometimes lol… eventually I got tired of that because again, I am an 8th grader and all that matters in life right now are shoes, crispy hairlines and waves lol! And if I had neither, then I wouldn’t get a girl! So, when my uncle left his clippers at the house I started to experiment! I jacked my line up and continued to do so every time afterwards. I started to get a little better each time because I remembered and learned from every mistake I made the previous week and as I progressed I began to cut my little cousin’s hair which led to my friends finally trusting me with their hairlines which turned out to be my hustle in college.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road still isn’t but I will continue to be resilient.
Barber/Celeb Barber – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a Barber/Celeb Barber. I specialize in customer service and I am known for quality work… I am most proud of my skill-set and how far I’ve come. What sets me apart is the fact that I feel as if the “client” isn’t the only one that wears the haircut, I do as well. Whether it’s a good or bad cut, people are going to notice and ask “who cut your hair”? Therefore, I cut every Client’s hair as if it were my own!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success… self-love, respect and financial freedom.
