Today we’d like to introduce you to Hunter Patrick.
Hunter, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started off rapping on a mic that was implemented into my Apple headphones. I had a goal to get to, I worked a 9-5 job for $7.25 an hour just to make enough money to somewhat develop my setup, I bought a mic and a computer. The mic was a blue yeti mic and I had a pretty nice pc. I made my music on audacity until I felt like I was developed enough to get into a real studio. Now I’m just trying to get better and hopefully catch some eyes.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I never had money, I never had support from anybody. The hardest part of the whole process was going to school at the same time as going to work and staying up til 4 or 5 in the morning just trying to make a song. I wanted it bad I wanted to get better . I know I have talent but if you want something in life you gotta get it. So that’s what I’m doing.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m known for sounding different, I’m known for coming out of a very judgemental area and doing what I wanted to do. I’m known for being “OG ILLICIT” the one person who started the rap trend in my area. The second I started rapping everybody hopped on the train. It’s crazy to think I started a wave.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
The couple of people who deserve credit won’t be mentioned by name for safety reasons, but there are very few people who deserve credit. But to the small amount of people who kept me going and kept my dream alive, this goes out to you. My girlfriend is the one who deserves all the credit. She motivates me without even trying.
