Meet Nicola Watson-Odom of Le Fashion Lab in Castleberry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicola Watson-Odom.

Watson holds a Masters of Arts Degree in Fashion from the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). She’s worked as an Apparel Fashion Designer for Target and Abercrombie, where she’s designed 7-figure brands and developed a thorough understanding of the numerous business and design components needed to run a successful fashion brand.

Nicola has also helped launch two startup fashion design brands in Atlanta, GA, taking both concepts from idea to actualization, including final samples and trade shows.

Additionally, Watson worked as the Fashion Instructor for SCAD’s Community Education Department for over 3 years, Adjunct Faculty in the Art/Fashion Department of Clark-Atlanta University, and has been featured as a Guest Lecturer of the Fashion & Marketing Department at Bauder College. She is also the author of “Fashion Designer Career Guide: Insider Tips for Fashion Career Planning.”

Has it been a smooth road?
Life is never smooth — for anyone! If it were, it would be boring! I’m learning to embrace the challenges and successes as a part of it all. One of my biggest, yet most exciting, challenges was moving from my native country (Jamaica) to a foreign country (America). I don’t call it a struggle. I call it an adventure.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Le Fashion Lab – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Le Fashion Lab was started after realizing that there was a need for professional fashion training. People long to develop the skills needed to launch their own fashion design businesses. Many look to fashion colleges to gain these skills, but the options are limited and impractical for those who need to work while going to school, those who can’t afford that level of investment financially or those who would rather not wait four years to gain the skills.

Nicola started Le Fashion Lab to create more options for studying fashion – more affordable, less prerequisites, no waste of your time and money! She created the syllabi and curriculum for all the classes, with a step-by-step approach to perfecting students’ skills in the most efficient manner possible – doing away with all the unnecessary prerequisites that keep you away from achieving your fashion goal.

Additionally, she added a key component that is missing from a traditional fashion college education – a thorough understanding of the designer as a business owner and entrepreneur.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Atlanta is great!

One of the best things about Atlanta is that you can get any type of experience you’re looking for — whether that be a great nightlife, laid back rural experience, suburbia, etc. It’s all a stone throw away.

It offers some of the best things stereotypical to a big city (city life, opportunity to create your own version of success, great shopping) while avoiding the negatives of a big city — dirt, grime, and bad attitudes.

Atlanta is big enough to “make it happen” but small enough to create bonds and close-knit relationships. Big enough to offer great diversity, but small enough to find your own culture, community, and clique.
