Imani, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In my early 20s, I was living a life of chasing fast money but I always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I also had a love for the esthetics industry… I finally decided to take my energy out of my fast lifestyle and use that same energy to invest into myself and to attend Esthetician school. While I was in school I started getting waxed and realized how fun yet Lucrative it was in the hair removal/wax industry. Waxing is the fastest money you can make being an Esthetician. I immediately knew I wanted to own my own wax business once I graduated from esthetics school. I graduated & got licensed in July 2016. I rushed and started my first business ”Skin To Die For” in 2017 with no clientele with an old associate but it didn’t do too well due to minor disagreements and I closed within three months. After fighting depression because of my first failed business, I finally got the strength to relaunch my business “Skin To Die For” which offered waxing, facials, mink lashes and teeth whitening in April 2018! The 2nd time around, I really focused on my business and marketing my services and products and grew a great amount of repeat clientele within months! As 2019 was approaching, I already knew that waxing was my passion and I initially wanted to focus on Waxing as the main service of my company because of the major profit I was receiving and the instant gratification it gave my clients. It was also a fast-paced service that keeps me on my toes which I loved. So, I eliminated facials and mink lashes and changed the name from “Skin To Die For” to “Wax Me Bare™️”Body Waxing Studio. At Wax Me Bare we focus and specialize in waxing for both women and men giving the most elite and efficient wax experience! We are still growing daily with new clients and we plan to expand and franchise in our future endeavors.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Wax Me Bare – what should we know?
Wax Me Bare is an elite body waxing studio for women and men. We also offer teeth whitening as an additional service. We mainly specialize in Brazilian Waxes. We reveal our clients best skin after waxes to keep them silky smooth so they can maintain their confidence throughout everyday life. We also use a signature hard wax at our studio which sets us apart from other wax studio that use strip wax . Our signature hard wax makes waxing very comfortable, fast and almost painless . We give our clients a great & efficient wax experience from when they arrive until they leave every visit with us!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road but it has been rewarding and worth it. My biggest struggles were building my clientele from 0 which finally came with hard work & consistency. I also lost a few friends along the way so it was hard having people to help genuinely support and promote me. Another struggle that I face til this day is balancing business and being a full-time parent.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First and foremost God has been a big support and a lot of my faith and strength comes from him on this journey! My supportive clients play a major role in my success. Also, my parents , a significant other and I put together the capital for the initial start of my business and as the business grew I invested the profits back into the business.
How do you, personally, define success? What’s your criteria, the markers you’re looking out for, etc?
To me success is FREEDOM & WINNING ! Freedom to be happy and do whatever you want in life on your terms and not anyone else’s. And winning is also success to me because chasing dreams and going against the normal , the odds are already against you. So when people are overcoming obstacles and beating the odds that we’re set up for them to fail at something that they know is possible, That is winning within itself.
