Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerry & Tracy Flanagan.
JDog Junk Removal & Hauling was founded in 2011 by Jerry and Tracy Flanagan. The concept started at the kitchen table and soon Jerry was out doing the lifting and hauling while Tracy did all of the back-office work. The business was advertised on a handful of note cards with coupons written in highlighter. But once customers started finding out Jerry was a Veteran they started referring him to friends and family.
After three years of developing pricing, marketing strategies and repurposing techniques the Flanagan’s decided to franchise nationally as JDog Junk Removal & Hauling. Through JDog’s mission: Respect, Integrity, Trust, Jerry and Tracy were able create a business opportunity for Veterans and their families across the country. JDog’s main goal is to provide Veterans and Veteran family members with a highly profitable, low cost business and the chance to be their own boss.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When Jerry and Tracy first started they knew very little about the junk removal industry other than it was highly profitable, in high demand, and recession proof. After three years of running the business themselves, they knew they had to do one of two things, expand or franchise. As most entrepreneurs know all too well, it’s not simple starting your own business, let alone replicating it nationally. But they soon came to an agreement to franchise the business in order to pursue a passion of theirs, helping the Veteran community.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about JDog – what should we know?
JDog is known for being the only United States Military Veteran brand that franchises exclusively to Veterans and their families. We are proud that we’ve been able to impact the Veteran community and our customers through our commitment of putting Veterans and their families into business ownership. The ethos of brotherhood throughout the country is what sets us apart from the rest. When you join JDog you’re not just joining a franchise system you’re joining the JDog Family. Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
At the end of the day it’s all about having a passion for what you do. No matter how many hours in the day it takes we’re always determined to lowing the unemployment rate for Veterans. We want to see every Veteran and military family member successful and provide them with an opportunity to live out their American Dream.
