Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Terry.
Candace, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Albany, Ga. I have always had a passion for hair and makeup ever since I was a little girl. Growing up with a mother who has been in the cosmetology business for over 20 years, I have learned so much about the beauty industry. I remember being in the salon all day watching my mother enhance women and I instantly fell in love with this line of work. After graduating high school, I went on to achieve my Bachelors of Science in Communications from Valdosta State University. While studying undergrad, I styled hair and provided makeup applications for so many women around campus. I would do hair and makeup for fashion shows, pageants, homecoming’s and graduations. I was doing it because I found joy in making women feel beautiful and giving makeovers. It is truly amazing to see how hair and makeup can finish the look and literally take you to the next level.
Upon graduation, I wasn’t quite sure about really getting into hair and makeup so I took a job offer for a Solutions Specialist with a telecommunications company for two years and then, I realized that is not the career that I wanted for my life. So, I stepped out on faith and quit my job and moved to Atlanta. I am now enrolled in a cosmetology program and expected to graduate in May 2020. I am a full-time makeup artist and I love every bit of it. My goal is to become a celebrity hairstylist and makeup artist and work on television and movie sets as a hairstylist and makeup artist. I think that it is so unique that God gave me the talent to do both and I hope that I will be able to bless so many people using my gift.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, not at all. Honestly, this has been the hardest process I’ve ever had to experience. Growing up in a small town, you get very comfortable and you can’t really fathom what it’s like living and being successful in a big city or really achieving your big goals and dreams. So, I have had to battle with that thought and other struggles such as financial issues, going back to school to pursue a different skill, making the decision to pack up and move to a big city, and trying to shine in a city filled with so many talented, well-established individuals. There are thoughts that I may not be good enough or I don’t have what it takes. But then I realized that every successful story had some struggles and I believe God wouldn’t have brought me this far to fail.

My company is CandaceTerryBeauty, a beauty lifestyle brand. My goal for my business is to provide healthy, beautiful, one-of-a-kind hairstyles and makeup applications. I specialize in natural hair care such as natural hairstyles, healthy hair growth, micro links, silk press, protective quick weaves, lace closures and more. My makeup applications include natural, flawless face and glamorous full face beat. I am most proud of my eagerness to always learn and grow to provide better services. I am a one-stop-shop and I plan to meet my customer’s needs in all things beauty.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from my childhood would have to be family gatherings at my grandmother’s house. My family raised my cousins and me to be super close and every gathering was so much fun. I have wayyy too many memories at our family gatherings.
