Mrs. Jaye, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
What started as a hobby, turned into a passion and that passion gave me the courage to pursue a career as a professional makeup artist, and it has been the best decision I have ever made because I am finally walking in my purpose.
After seven years of working in corporate America as a Claims Adjuster, Leaving my 9-5 was a very hard decision. Being a mom and wife with a career, it seemed like leaving. what to some would be considered a ‘stable’ job was a wrong decision. Although, I was making good money, I was not content, nor was I truly happy. Having a degree in business, I always wondered what it would be like to own my own, but I never thought it would ever really manifest. I started doing makeup on the side about three years into my corporate career and even decided to acquire my Esthetics license. It seemed as though my purpose was being carved out for me, but I struggled with the thought of turning my hobby into a full-time career. Little did I know, what God had in store for me.
In December 2014, I finally decided to take a step out on faith. I turned in my two weeks notice and made the decision to pursue a full-time career as a Professional Makeup Artist and Esthetician. Since January 2015, I’ve been blessed to have done makeup for celebrities and prominent figures, and My work has been published in several magazines. In 2016, I published my first book “Beauty Defined” A Makeup and Skincare Guide for all Women and launched my very own makeup line, called “Island Goddess” which consists of Foundations, Lip colors and face powders. In March of 2017, I was selected to work with BET in Miami for their annual BETher Conference. In November of 2017, I celebrated the grand opening of my Spa, Goddess Faces by Mrz. Jaye Makeup Studios and Skincare Spas. I’ve also been privileged to have been able to collaborate with an amazing spa in Alpharetta where Im able to provide my services. In the Summer of 2018, I started Goddess Girls, A teen Girls Empowerment workshop and In January of 2019 GF Beauty Academy was created to help guide, mentor and train other Beauty Professionals on their journey of entrepreneurship. My journey hasn’t been easy but it has definitely been rewarding, fulfilling and worth it.
Has it been a smooth road?
The journey of entrepreneurship has been one of the most deeply, spiritual journeys I’ve ever experienced. This journey has thought me so much about what walking in your purpose and trusting the process really means. Patience.
Proverbs 3: 5 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”.
This is what I do every day. There are many challenges I faced along the way, The first one was accepting my decision to leave corporate America and to walk confidently and faithfully in my purpose. Going from a secured check every two weeks to not knowing how or when my next client would come, was a real eye-opener. For me, the goal was to bring home what I was making in my 9-5 right out the gate. But building a business takes time.
Branding, marketing, supplies, and adjusting to the new media platforms being used for marketing and exposure at the time (Instagram and Twitter) was a huge adjustment and leaning experience. I also had to do a lot of soul searching. Trying to figure out, who was I, in what seemed to be a sea of other budding makeup artist and beauty professionals.
With all of this, I started realizing that the thief of joy is comparison. I had to find peace and understanding in knowing that what is mine will not pass me by, that my destiny was promised to me at birth and that no one can stop me from obtaining my goals, but me.
Trusting the process while being faced with and overcoming challenges is necessary. I had to understand that in order to appreciate my wins I had to be strong and have faith during my “losses.” Every day as an entrepreneur is a learning experience. Every day I am learning growing, organizing and strategizing. But one thing that remains is my faith and my discernment for what it is that God wants. I am passionate about my purpose so although it hasn’t been a smooth road, it is a road I can now handle.

Jaye Makeup studios and Skincare Spas provides Makeup, waxing, PMU, and Skincare for women, My goal was to create a space where my clients can feel relaxed, get pampered, and be inspired. I also specialize in Bridal Makeup. I think whats sets me apart is the overall experience coupled with outstanding customer services and professionalism. I refer to all of my clients as Goddesses and I treat them as such.
