Today we’d like to introduce you to Folasade Oyefeso.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Folasade. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always had an intense desire to be my best self and to live a fulfilling life. I have never desired to live a life rooted in emotional turmoil, generational trauma, or guided by subconscious feelings of inadequacy. In 2012, I married and had a beautiful baby girl in 2014. I was legally divorced way before my 25th birthday. When I tell people about my “failed marriage”, they always seem to feel bad or apologize. I tell my story with a big smile on my face because that experience birthed me. I have spent a lot of time in counseling, reading books, and attending self-help seminars. I have purged myself and continue to rid myself of self-doubt and self-neglect. I created The FolaO Show with my story in mind, to give what I’ve learned to others. I released my first episode of the podcast January 31, 2019 on apple podcast. I initially created The FolaO Show as a podcast.
A podcast to inspire others to live their best lives they desire. I started The FolaO Show while I was working, raising my daughter and in Nursing School. After graduating from Nursing school I realize that I want The FolaO Show to appeal to others outside of the world of podcasting. I want The FolaO Show to support the community by spreading positive insight across social media platforms. In August, I created a 30 Day Challenge of Protecting Your Energy/Space and I noticed that it had a positive affect on many people. I received several messages from people stating that the challenge helped them be more positive throughout the day and gave them a sense of hope. I have already created a new challenge for September and I believe it will be very helpful to others. In the next coming months, The FolaO Show will launch a website and YouTube channel. I am excited about what The FolaO Show will become and the gems it will give the community.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a struggle. The biggest struggle is fighting against my own self-doubt and fear. Hearing that voice that tells you “can you do this?”, “What makes you qualified?” “There are so many people already doing this.” My advice is to push past self-doubt and to do it anyway. You don’t want to live your life in regret. You have one life to live and you better act like it! Take nothing for granted!
What should we know about The FolaO Show? What do you do best? What sets you apart from others?
I graduated from Nursing school recently and passed board, so I’m officially an Emergency Department RN. Nurses are known to be natural nurturers. We are taught to be compassionate and empathetic. I feel for people. I’m not in it for the shout outs or likes, but for the impact. I’m also Nigerian American, so sometimes when I film videos, I like to use my terrible Nigeria accent. I’m sure my ancestors cringe every time. I also have the personal experience of motherhood. I believe motherhood allows me to have a special perspective. I’m able to empathize with women who feel stuck because they have children. Women often deal with a lot of guilt surrounded around taking care of themselves. I have definitely learned balance. I’m able to encourage people to love themselves in order to become better parents to their children.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Every interaction you have can impact your future. Be intentional about the relationships you create in business, romance, and friendships.
