Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Granado.
Megan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
A couple of years ago, I started to get pretty sick and didn’t really know what was going on with my body. Several months and testing later, I was diagnosed with lupus and it was one of those things where you take a minute to realize you need to be spending your life doing what you enjoy, because otherwise, what’s the point? So, I picked up my little camera and never put it down again. I started shooting everything and anything, and then one day what I thought was just going to be a small side business took off and became a full-time job for me. I fell deeply in love with shooting weddings and couples, and then, my husband, Jeremy, stepped up to the plate to become my partner and learned everything he could so we could shoot weddings together. It’s been an amazing journey so far.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely hasn’t always been easy. I don’t think any journey of an entrepreneur has ever been smooth. One second, you’re on top of the world, and the next your questioning every decision you’ve ever made and wonder if you’re fit for this lifestyle. Between struggles with my personal health, and my confidence in myself as an artist, it’s definitely been a bumpy road, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Please tell us about Pom Photography.
Pom Photography is a documentary-style photography business whose primary focus is to provoke real emotions and capture them in photographs. We’re different than regular photographers that just pose you and snap. The goal of a session with us is to create an experience for you to look back on. While we do take on a few different types of sessions to keep our creative hearts flowing, our primary focus is on couples and weddings, because we’re passionate about love and love capturing it at every chance we get. I’m honestly so proud of how far we have grown from that first little t5 and kit lens to the company we’ve become that gets to travel across the country to document people’s biggest days.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could do it all over again, I think I would have taken some business classes before we launched. There was a lot of trial and error, and while I would have probably done it all over again the same way, some knowledge of what may be to come would have been nice.
