Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Crabtree.
Nicole, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Being a single mother of three kids (ages 18,16 and 14) has made “getting started” tough, but with the help of an amazing support system in my life, I’ve been able to get where I am today! I started as a young mother that was working basic jobs and trying to go to school to find my niche in life. In 2002, I was introduced into the fitness industry with an established Athletics company that catered to professional athletes, youth, rehabilitation, and the list goes on. That jump-started me into something that was getting me well on my way with my career as a personal trainer.
Of course, life isn’t simple and trials and tribulations place themselves as obstacles in your path… which is what happened to me. I had a lot more downs than ups in the past 17 years. Juggling life, work, family, kids… and then, Cancer! I could put a lot of personal things out there in regard to the extreme turmoil myself and my kids have been through, but this is about how I got where I am today! When I found out I had cancer, generally, I was devastated, but in no way was that going to hold me back in life. I took about a year off of work for treatment and finally made my way back into the fitness industry with an “unnamed” corporation. I helped not just run that facility, but brought a community together that changed it drastically with the help of my amazing team! But not everything is as good as it seems, and my health started to take a toll again as did the well being of my kids due to the high levels of stress, over strenuous work hours and lack of finances. That’s when I chose to take a step out on my own and built WIP Athletics, LLC.
I can’t tell you how fulfilling it is to have the time for my family while aiding each individual client I have the way I need to. I’ve had the opportunity to be able to work with athletes, youth, weight loss… even helping one of my clients get ready for rugby season (being quadriplegic)! It’s brought me back to what I was introduced to before, and I honestly couldn’t have gotten where I am without the encouragement of my loved ones, friends and the community around me! I’m blessed to be able to work with great people that have brought me in under their wing to help me advance towards greater success!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not! I’ve had my fair share of struggles (which is most definitely an understatement). I’m a divorced single mother, so a lot of struggles come with that. I’ve fought cancer for over four years, still having to work to support my children and that alone is a serious set back in life. BUT overcoming it has been an overwhelming road. I’ve had the basic stresses of life with finances, grievances, and previous relationship abuse that would be expected to hold anyone back, however… nothing is achievable to overcome if you can’t push past the negative to get to the positive!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the WIP Athletics story. Tell us more about it.
WIP Athletics is personal training for ALL types! I specialize in anything from weight loss, rehabilitation, fitness competition prep, adult and youth athletics to even doing online training and nutrition programming. There isn’t anything in the fitness industry that my company and myself doesnt specialize in.
The best part about WIP Athletics is that we don’t focus just on one particular thing, or treat every client the same with the same types of workouts. Taking a thorough time to assess each client to find their strengths and weaknesses before putting them through workouts that may or may not work for them. I keep the best interest of my clients and their results in mind when I develop each work out regiment and/or nutrition program. I especially enjoy using creativity to make things fun for my clients to keep them enthused about their workouts and keep them motivated!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Well, as you’ve read so far… I’ve had a lot more bad luck than good luck. But in reality, the bad luck I’ve had has led me down the path I’m on now. If I hadn’t gone through what I have, then I wouldn’t have been able to meet the people in my life that mean the most to me and that has been by my side through thick and thin, and I wouldn’t be back on my way to success! At the end of the day, we all have bad luck (some more than others), but I’m thankful for it in a sense!
