Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Evans.
Richard Anthony Evans started his career off in the visual arts as a graphic designer. After a few years in the graphic design field he picked up a camera to shoot an event for a client as a favor. After receiving numerous compliments about the pictures, first from his client and then from others, Richard realized his gifts expanded beyond just graphic design to photographic skills. Immediately he called a friend who was a local photographer in Atlanta, Georgia and asked if he could do some assisting of sorts with him. After a year of learning and honing his skills, Richard decided to launch out on his own. Hereafter, Richard Anthony Evans Photography was born!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not super smooth but not exactly super hard either. The biggest challenge, which is true of most businesses, is getting people to know about you and your work. Marketing and advertising is the bread and butter of this industry… Most say photography is a flooded market, and I suppose that may be true. However, a photographer’s work has his own ‘creative DNA’ I like to say. And those who are attracted to his creativity will always want to do work and involve themselves with him or her. So, the so-called ‘flooded’ photography market doesn’t discourage or intimated us at R A E. There are billions of people on this earth so there will always be room for another great image and people who want to take them.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the R A E story. Tell us more about the business.
Richard ‘s style uniquely combines his graphic design skills with his extreme passion for photography. “Light is a love for me! I really feel like I have a relationship with light. And I think every really good photographer does rather he or she realizes it or not! Good photography, I believe, equals great light and light and color are synonymous… Tones of color brought out by light is what attracts people to our pictures.”
We are big on experience. Not just taking the picture but making a person feel important; making them comfortable, and at ease. With all the millions of cameras always flashing in one’s face through phones, DSLRs, mirrorless cameras there has to be another element that transcends this new norm. We believe it’s the relationship between us and our clients. Our ability to give them a great picture with a great experience as well. Ask yourself, with all the access to movies online such as Netflix, Hulu, etc. why hasn’t the traditional movie theater been phased out yet. I mean it seem plausible that one should just be able to watch any new release from their computer, right? The reason is there’s an experience one gets at the large, even huge movie theater that isn’t available anywhere else. (Unless you’re a Ka-Zillionaire with a killer home theater! lol) It’s the experience. It’s the reason why people pay up $20 to see a movie at the theater. Experience matters!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Don’t believe in luck. Things happen on purpose. You go about business with a purpose; an objective. There are opportunities that we may encounter, I guess some could consider that luck. But even that you need to be prepared for. And so, from day one I’ve always taken pictures as if they would be featured in Vogue or Elle magazine! Or at least I’ve attempted to!
